McKenna: I Pay No Attention to Speculation
Friday, 14th Oct 2022 15:40

Blues boss Kieran McKenna says he has paid no attention to the speculation linking him with various managerial job vacancies in the Championship in recent weeks.

The Town manager, who has previously said that he sees his position at Portman Road as a long-term one, has been mentioned in connection with the vacancies at Watford, West Brom, Middlesbrough and Huddersfield, either by bookies or in speculative articles, while fans of some of those clubs have expressed their interest in him taking over at their sides on social media.

“It's honestly not something I pay any attention to,” the Northern Irishman insisted. “I don't go on social media and I don't have any social media accounts. I focus on my day-to-day job here.

“I know I've got a fantastic job at a fantastic football club with so much ahead of us and so much that we want to achieve, and there's not space in the day for one second really to veer or look beyond that.”

He added: “I think that's the nature of football for all managers. If you're doing well with a club, then there's going to be interest from above.

“Then, if you're not doing well, there's going to be criticism and people who want to say you should be doing things differently.

“That's the nature of the job and I think the best thing to do is focus on what you're doing and let other people make the judgements on that, positively or negatively.”

Staying here and proving what he can do has got to be more beneficial to him in the long run. He's doing a wonderful job but has achieved nothing yet. He is very young for a manager and has many years, even decades ahead of him to achieve his ultimate goals.

Its worrying but at the same time inevitable. I would never rule anything out, when a manager is seen to be successful these stories will always circulate. but we've won nothing yet, achieved anything of note and are just a league one team on a not bad run.

He'll sign for Watford tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😂😂😂

There is every chance he will have promotion, and possibly League 1 Winner, on his CV come next May, at which point he will be in the same Division as those clubs mentioned, or possible the one above for one of them.
Why would he give up the prospect of bringing success back to a club in decline for 20 years, at a time when he knows he has the support & backing of the fans aswell as the owners? None of those club will provide a better base for him in my view.

Given the clubs mentioned (all speculation) why would he want to leave here to go to work for a trigger happy owner.

Ha ha WATFORD!! Who in their right mind would even contemplate going there? I bet Rob Edwards wishes he'd stayed at Forest Green. Sacked after 11 games after a not terrible start. It takes time to build, something they, and a few other clubs, can't seem to grasp these days.

I hope he stays with us and think he will. Championship football next season a must though. KM will fair well against those clubs. Tactically very good,

Let's get real here. We can all see how 'potentially' good our manager is, but he needs to get us promoted with the squad and depth of squad we have. He needs it to prove he is the real deal, and boy do we need it too. Either way it is currently looking like a marriage made in heaven, and he is bright enough to know you do not find these situations often in your managerial career, so he should carry on embracing every moment. As will we. COYB

surely moving to smaller less successful clubs like the ones mentioned would be a step backwards ?

Ipswich have owners who want the club in the Prem and McKenna knows that.

This reminds me of Sir Bobby Robson a young manager who has the backing to build a team and allowed to manage.

Should not be surprised if he is with Town in the Prem knocking on Sir Bobby Robson record

There's a fair chance we'll be above all those clubs this time next year anyhow.
