McKenna: Vincent-Young's an Important Player For Us
Friday, 11th Nov 2022 15:37

Blues boss Kieran McKenna was delighted to see Kane Vincent-Young involved in much of Town’s positive play at Bracknell on Monday, the former Colchester man having picked up ITV4’s Man of the Match award having laid on the first two goals in the 3-0 FA Cup first-round victory.

The 26-year-old put over the cross which led to Robins skipper Dan Bayliss turning past his own keeper and then sent over the ball for Freddie Ladapo to net the second.

Having made a blistering start to his Town career when he signed from the U’s in August 2019, the former Tottenham trainee then spent 16 months out with various injuries and has subsequently been in and out of the team, so his performance on Monday was a big positive.

“Definitely was,” McKenna said. “He’s been an important player for us. I know he hasn’t always started as many games but we always know that he’s there, we know he can play so many different roles and we know what he can bring at different times.

“He enjoys that attacking left-back slot and he has a good relationship with Kyle [Edwards] on that side as well and they’re able to give us some different variations with Kane being a right-footer and Kyle being someone who likes to operate out on the touchline a little bit more.

“They’re able to give us a little bit of variation there as a pair and that’s something that we’ve worked on with them at the training ground.

“They have a really good balance and understanding on that side of the pitch and it was lovely to see that on Monday night.

“And there are going to be bigger challenges ahead, of course. Good to see Kane back fit and getting 90 minutes into his legs and that gives us another good player available for Saturday now.”

KVY bings a still youthful look to the side ,and it's good to have him fit and getting yet fitter again ;his versatility is truly valuable ,and as a player he seems both adaptable and intelligent about his work .

Thought KVY sounded very intelligent and well spoken when he was interviewed by ITV4. Love to see him back to what he was in 2019. He ain't far off that.
