McKenna: Three Or Four Have Stayed Behind
Tuesday, 7th Feb 2023 09:25

Town boss Kieran McKenna says three or four players have remained in Suffolk with minor knocks and niggles ahead of tonight’s FA Cup fourth-round tie at Burnley (KO 7.45pm).

Quizzed on whether there were any players who would be missing at Turf Moor, McKenna said: “There are a few. I don’t want to name our team, which if I give away to many of who’s not here than there are probably some positions which are automatic.

“We’ve had three or four who have had to stay behind with minor injuries and niggles that we’ll have to monitor over the course of the week.”

The Blues squad flew up to the North-West yesterday ahead of their first fourth-round replay since February 1998 when they lost 1-0 at Sheffield United.

In addition to injured players, skipper Sam Morsy is suspended having picked up yellow cards in the first match and Buxton tie, while Harry Clarke is cup-tied.

Is it 3 or is it 4 - He should know really!

KMk is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn't with this tie. On the one hand we are 90 mins away from a lucrative cup quarter final, but the reality is any amount of cup success won't get us promoted.
I suspect there may be a little stretching of the truth re injuries, which I understand, but I just want us to be competitive in this game. Clearly, all eyes are on Saturday.

I see it more like the first leg. Expected to lose. Anything else a bonus. But not extra time or pens. Finish after 90 minutes even if it is the less regular first teamers. Obviously all will become clearer once the two teams are announced.

Yes it would be nice to get to the next round, However I don't think the owners will worry too much if Town go out.
Lucrative as another tie would be it will far more lucrative in the Championship.
For me Town need a settled side for the rest of the season if they are to get top two or stay in the play offs. The way Town are in the League goes to show how far off a Championship side we are.

Why Woolfenden is not playing I have no idea against Cambridge Keogh does not seem to have the legs anymore. Has had a great career and will be a great mentor, but for me only for cover.

Can't believe McKenna is starting to get some flack among our fanbase. I think we're lucky to have him. There would be plenty of other clubs happy to take him off us if given half a chance. Yes he's inexperienced and learning on the job but the football is way better under him than it has been in a long while. There's some rough edges and inconsistencies to sort out but I still think we've taken massive strides forwards compared to where we were under Shambert and Evans! And yes I'm frustrated that it's looking more like the Play Offs now than automatic promotion, but I still think McKenna has done a very good job overall since taking over here and I'm happy to cut him some slack during a difficult period. I think if we stick with him the faith will be rewarded.

He's a progressive manager, I'd much rather that than some of the other managerial dinosaurs lurking out there! Remember we were getting linked with Harris, give me McKenna over Harris any day of the week!

We are fortunate enough to have a big squad to cope with injuries, unfortunate as they are it will give someone an opportunity to step up and try to stake their claim within the team.

Midas Touch spot on with your comments, every club has “Followers” with indifferent opinions, but real supporters although disappointed with current lack of wins appreciates how far McKenna & the gamechanger owners have come in short period of time, one thing Evans did partly redeem himself
Was the sale to go ahead progressive owners just need the icing on cake with promotion asap, only my opinion of course!!!! COYB

Wow some dumb comments about the numbers here. We have a big squad, even if they were all fit there would be a few not travelling, so any thought of niggles or anything more serious and of course they stay behind....with our current form there is no one who can be described as indispensable at this point, like Wes was last year.

Expect a very different 11 from Saturday and to not be much weaker, and with players trying to prove a point and be worthy of getting into the next League team/squad. Fully expect us to give them another tough game whoever we put out, as will the boss. COYB

We do have some morons don't we!
We have a big squad and we have permutations that will put out a competitive 11, i've no idea why people keep calling for the same side and stick with it, the whole point of squad strength is that achieves interchangeability. The game has moved on since 80/81
Let KM get on with it, i have absolute faith in him

McKenna best manager we've had in years even the players have remarked on how good and how intense the training is. It's a learning curve for him some people need to get off his back and accept some games we will lose some games just do go the way we want. He can only send his team out if they don't perform not exactly his fault but I'm sure his watching very closely.

So no Morsy or Evans (?) for tonight. Will be a huge game for Humphrey's and Llungo. Come on the town!

But that Naarwich/BBC pundit/tool says we'll lose 5-0. I expect a decent side and a decent performance whoever gets to play. Not expecting a win, but would be very disappointed with a pasting. Go and do your best lads, and then all eyes on Saturday and the league games beyond. COYB!

If our dodgy defence can remain focused like they did in first fa cup game v Burnley, we stand a chance actually, because they allow us to play our game . League one sides don't .

Billericay12 added 15:15 - Feb 7
With the squad we have and senior player cover in every position we don't ever look like a weak team. Yes we will miss Morsy. If Jackson starts a few will moan but he did really well in the first leg and we still seem slightly unsure what the best back 3 is. (A matter of opinion) but that shows how competitive the squad is.

Let's bow out gracefully without a hiding then put all our focus into closing the gap to Wednesday and Plymouth. Six points really is nothing, it's not even mid February.
I see Plymouth have lost their keeper for the season, just maybe the luck is changing in our favour. We've really not had the rub of the green at times of late.
COYB.

Dirtydingusmagee ….. was just about to say same thing , that type of sentence is trotted out in almost every sport , every week of the year , 3 or 4 , 2 or 3 , we all use that phrase from time to time .
Morons come to mind .

Yes he does know ArchieRob, but he's not going to give opposition a clue is he. Crass comment. Or are you trying to get record for most neg votes🤣

Unfortunately, there will always be numpties who will create negativity just for the sake of it! Question for those questioning KM. What manager in their right mind would disclose who is missing from the squad, prior to actually having to name the starting 11 and subs or maybe we should give the opponents a heads up ☹️

Whatever the line up give it your all you boys as you did in the first game our squad as stated above is strong enough to put a good x1 on the park enjoy the evening do the club proud and then get revved up for the game on Saturday with a full house making a load of noise which i reckon we are going to win and put a bit of doubt in Wednesday's minds.
