Clapham Agrees Terms

Jamie Clapham has agreed to join Birmingham City on a three-and-a half year deal worth £1.5 million to Town. The two clubs agreed a fee for the 27-year-old on Monday and the versatile left-sided player travelled for talks yesterday.

Clapham's agent Andrew Mills said that terms were agreed this afternoon and that the details will be tied up by the end of the week: “Jamie will travel to Birmingham tomorrow for the medical with a view to signing the contract on Friday morning.”

Town will receive an initial payment of £1 million with a further £500,000 due if Birmingham avoid relegation at the end of this season.

Clapham joined Town from Spurs initially on loan back in January 1998 before signing permanently two months later for £300,000.

At Spurs he had been primarily a midfield player but he spent much of his time at Town at left-back or wing-back. However, this season Joe Royle has used him as part of his central midfield three. Clapham has played all 36 Town games this season.

Clapham's latest contract with Town was signed in March 2001 and it would have kept him at Portman Road until June 2004. It is understood that he was not one of the higher earners at the club.

The Lincoln-born man played 252 times for Town and scored 16 goals, including the first against Morecambe last Saturday.
