McKenna: A Few Niggles and Issues Ahead of Watford Trip
Monday, 11th Dec 2023 16:47

Town boss Kieran McKenna says there are few little niggles in the squad ahead of Tuesday’s game at Watford but that a big group has trained today, while Massimo Luongo and Brandon Williams are available again after suspension.

The Blues travel to Vicarage Road for the first time since Richard Chaplow’s dramatic last-gasp winner claimed a 1-0 victory in March 2015.

“We’ll assess them this morning,” McKenna told TownTV ahead of training this morning.

“They’re still in that recovery process from a really big shift on Saturday but we’ll get ready to go again.

“We’ve got a big group training, we have got a few little niggles and issues in the group that we’ll have to assess over the next 24 hours.

“But we’ve got a healthy squad and no doubt the energy levels will be good for another really good game to look forward to, and we’ll be ready to go again.”

Luongo and Williams both missed the weekend 2-0 win at Middlesbrough having reached five bookings but will be back in the party which travels to Hertfordshire.

Must pick our strongest team and not be influenced by the Norwich city game it's three points for a win who ever we play. I'm sure McKenna will treat both games equal and not get carried away by the Derby rivalry it's just another game to him.

Linkboy13....Totally agree with you....People saying don't play Morsy as he may get booked & we need him for the Norwich match.....He has to play if fit & it is down to him to not get booked....He would be missed but thats what having a good squad is all about...COYB...ITID..

Agree that we should put our strongest side out. Away at vicarage Rd is a tough fixture, PR vs Norwich is not. We could pick any starting XI and still beat them!

.....I would also consider Cam Humphreys vs Norwich.

Saxon - I agree with both your posts. If Morsey avoids a booking at Watford I would start Humphreys in place of him against Norwich to make sure he's available at least for Leeds, who are our biggest threat. I know it's the derby but on current form at home we should have enough without the skipper. I remain to be convinced about Taylor as a replacement for either Morsey or Luongo.

Defo Taylor if morsy or luongo is missing! Taylor Long range shooting accuracy puts him ahead of humphreys for me!

PORTMAN51 Taylor will be a good replacement for luongo next season should he decide to go back to Australia!
Besides kelvin Phillips will be our first summer signing! Lol

Churchman's - Obviously the potential for "worldies" from Taylor is there, but I was thinking more about the extent to which he imposes himself in the middle of the field as M&M do. I just don't think I've seen that from him yet, though it may well come if and when he's a regular starter.

Taylor’s positional sense is very good but he doesn’t yet have the same charisma and physical presence that Sam and Mass have. They just seem to have so much time on the ball and can easily move away from opponents. Plus we missed Luongo’s playmaking on Saturday.

Interesting to read comments about Taylor. For me he's more of a creative player than Sam or Mass so i wouldnt expect the dame level of defensive steel from him To be honest I'd expected him to start ahead of Massimo more this season, credit to Mass for holding, and deserving his place. Two tough energetic games, Im expecting M&M to start both
