Travis Loan Signing Confirmed
Friday, 5th Jan 2024 15:31

Town have confirmed the loan signing of Blackburn Rovers captain Lewis Travis, as first revealed by TWTD this morning.

The 26-year-old, who plays as a defensive midfielder but also right-back or left-back, is currently out of favour at Ewood Park having started only two of the last 10 matches and hasn’t begun a Championship game in his preferred central midfield role since the start of October.

Travis, who will wear the number 28 shirt, will start training with the squad next week and won't be involved at AFC Wimbledon tomorrow.

“I’m really happy to be here and can’t wait to get started,” he told TownTV.  “When I knew Ipswich were calling I jumped at the chance, given the league position and the unbelievable start to the season the team has had.

“To be a part of a team like this is something I’m very excited about and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the supporters.

“I have had good, honest conversations with the Manager and I think the style of play will suit me. I am aggressive both with and without the ball, which I think is what he liked, so it’s about me getting in there and impressing.”

Born in Whiston, Travis was with Liverpool’s academy where he was a defender until joining Rovers’ youth set-up in 2014.

He signed his first pro deal with Blackburn aged 19 in 2017 and made his senior debut later that year, former Town skipper and coach Tony Mowbray having converted him into a midfielder.

Travis, who is 6ft tall, has now made 189 starts and 35 sub appearances for Rovers and signed a new deal running to 2026 in March 2022 and that summer was named club captain.

We understand Town were among a number of Championship clubs who were keen to sign Travis on loan with Millwall, who had previously had an £800,000 offer rebuffed in the summer, and Preston among the other suitors.

Travis, is the Blues’ second signing of the transfer window and is now their fourth loanee, is likely to come into the squad to some extent as cover for Sam Morsy, who is suspended for the next two Championship matches, both in terms of playing position and also leadership qualities.

Five days into the January transfer window and two loans signed up, come on town pull your socks up.
What an amazing team we have, and for once I don’t mean the players. Isn’t it great to get such good business done so quickly and hopefully an addition to the striker’s department won’t be far off.
Hopefully they will all settle in quickly.

Isn’t it amazing that neither of our two loan signings thus far could get sufficient game time at their Clubs - but now being ‘waxed lyrical’ as great players and great signings now they are here, without even kicking a ball for us ?
Isn’t it time the ‘exciteables’ calmed down and to see what actually transpires ??

Good signing our fringe players are Div 1 standard i don't think i saw Ball ever break sweat in a Town shirt he can now concentrate on writing his books.

If I was unhappy in my workplace I too would want to move on. Hirst, Luongo and Morsy are good examples of wanting to earn their wages rather than sitting on the bench. Let’s have an open mind and see what he contributes before labelling incomers as Poundland loans. Welcome Lewis to a club who get the best out of players.

I think Blueboy is talking sense for once. Personally, I won't be judging either of them until they show us what they can do on the pitch.

A good addition to the squad. However a very strange situation has taken place between player and Blackburn over the past 6 months.
To be told pre season you are our captain, our leader. To then 12 weeks later be dropped off a cliff.
Only then to be farmed out of the club mid season.

Not so sure there’s any relevance for this to be called TWTD anymore - Truth is something that is frowned upon by far too many - but NOT all I hasten to add.
Maybe it’s time to rename as Kiddies Playtime or Hissy Fit Paradise - many posts would fit well with either as that’s the way it’s heading unfortunately - no one is allowed to have an alternative view or negative opinion on anything that doesn’t fit the with the new suggested naming.
It WAS always a site for open opinion and debate - without fear of Critique or Abuse - now they were TWTD and rightly so too !

@blueboy, nothing ‘excites’ you! You need to look at the bigger picture, oh of course you can’t, because the past is irrelevant! You continually move the ‘goalposts’ and continue to remain totally illogical! Is blooding youngsters still your way forward? Really? At such a pivotal time of the season and may I remind you, currently sitting 2nd in the championship, above Southampton and Leeds!

Blueboy I'm a rovers fan and personally I'm gutted to see him go out on loan. He is a fighter and a workhorse and I see him weekly at Rovers so get ya head out ya a55.

Can’t knock the 2 new loan signings. Clearly signed to improve the overall squad.
And no doubt will be given opportunities to impress.
However very much looking forward to departures now of squad players that are out of depth.
Then by the end of January, 2 or 3 more new players
who have come to start games.
Because they are currently good enough to do that, and the reason bought in.
