Town at Home to Maidstone in FA Cup
Monday, 8th Jan 2024 19:58

Town have drawn National League South Maidstone United at home in the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Maidstone, the lowest-ranked side still in the tournament, pulled off the shock of the third round, beating League One Stevenage 1-0 at home.

The Blues have never previously met the Kent side in a competitive fixture.

The Maidstone squad includes former Town academy defender George Fowler, who is from Debenham, while another defender Reiss Greenidge had a trial with the Blues in 2015 when a West Brom player, featuring for the U21s on a number of occasions.

Former Blues boss Mick McCarthy was among those watching the match, supporting his former Wolves player George Elokobi, who is manager of the Stones.

Maidstone, currently fifth in National League South, the sixth tier, are the third non-league side Town have been paired with in the last two seasons having visited Bracknell and hosted Buxton in 2022/23.

Ties will be played over the weekend of January 27th, the Blues' Championship game at home to Rotherham United having been moved to Tuesday 20th February.

It’s an odd take many think it will be on TV. If it was away then probably. As it’s us at home definitely won’t be.

Let me guess what Chris Sutton’s prediction will be for this one…

The perfect draw, as we want to progress as far as possible. Hopefully a bumper Portman Road crowd, which would be good for both sides financially (40% each, isn't it?). Surely on TV which is another £100k. And £120k prize money if we win.

A lot of Championship v Championship draws I noticed and likewise Premiership...so with a bit of luck and a fair wind we have an opportunity like the League Cup to go further.

Bet we aren't on TV - you can see the games ITV and BBC will pick (Tottenham v Man City, Chelsea V Villa, Newport/Eastleigh V Man U) an outside chance depending how many live games will be shown.

Lovely draw. Will be a great day for Maidstone and their fans plus it gives us an excellent opportunity to reach round 5 for the first time in over 15 years.
I remember us playing them in a preseason friendly in 1990 at Corinthians ground near Brands Hatch. My mate dropped a little bit of his pie on a table in the clubhouse and it took the varnish off it so god knows what it did to his insides!

Should be able to sort this one out ( compared to a few FA matches I can think of in recent years...( Great chance to rotate the squad. COYB!

Excellent interview before the draw with Shaun Maloney. Ideal material for when KM departs for Man Utd in a couple of years.

On another note, if we prevail then the maximum amount of prem teams into the 5th rd coukd be 10. More probable something like 8...we could have an interesting cup run!

I believe as many as 10 premier league clubs, could be out, before the 5th round draw is made.Should get really interesting after that.

Great opportunity to get into the 5th round for the first time since 2007, but as dirtydingus says, egg on face match, as Barrow and Lincoln have shown us in recent years. But that is the Magic of the Cup, great tie to bring first time fans to as well!

Added to all his other abilities, KMcK seems to very often get the luck of the draw. Nearly always at home, and if there's a Non-League team, we get 'em.

Win this easy and another £120,000 in the bank to gk with the £110,000 we picked up for brushing Wimbledon aside

The magic of the FA Cup is still alive.

@RRanger agreed it would be good to peg the ticket prices at something sensible but not sure about giving Maidstone all the takings. Perhaps the equivalent of whatever their own fans spend.
Either way a great opportunity for some decent PR and a straightforward pass into the next round.

Aldershot took 4-5K to WBA this weekend
As long as the KO is not something ridiculous and the trains are running then surely they will bring 3K minimum.
last year the Buxton game was 6 KO on a Sunday -so anything un-magical is allowable in the ''magic of the FA Cup'' rulebook - as long as TV is happy

TimmyH: I watched six F A Cup games on freeview over the weekend (Thursday to Monday!!!!) Yes sad I know.
So a very good chance we will be on TV, BBC, ITV or iPlayer.

Just checked, it was all Seven on freeview that I watched.
Ipswich have got to be on if they do Thursday to Monday again.
