Town Linked With Former German U21 International
Tuesday, 30th Jan 2024 14:26

Town are reported to be among a number of clubs to have made an enquiry regarding Eintracht Frankfurt striker Jessic Ngankam.

Former German U21 international Ngankam, 23, joined Die Adler in the summer but is yet to find the net for the Bundesliga side, leading to speculation that he could move out on loan before Thursday’s deadline.

According to German website Fussball.news Town, Luton and Belgian side Royal Antwerp have made enquiries, while Italian side Hellas Verona and FSV Mainz 05 have also been linked.

Berlin-born Ngankam started his career with local club Hertha, before joining Greuther Fürth on loan, then returning to Hertha, then moving to Eintract Frankfurt on a deal which runs to 2028.

However, his spell has started less than impressively, the striker having failed to net in three starts and 16 sub appearances so far this season.

Town, who yesterday completed the signing of AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi, are still on the lookout for another striker ahead of the transfer window closing at 11pm on Thursday.

Sam Gallagher, who scored for Blackburn in last night’s 4-1 FA Cup victory over Wrexham, remains a target with Rovers reportedly having made a bid for Orlando City forward Duncan McGuire, who has also been interesting Sheffield Wednesday.

The Lancastrians have been reluctant to sell Gallagher to the Blues due to their lack of alternative options.

Know very little about him, only his stats which aren't impressive. 8 goals since his step up to the Hertha first team in 2020 with no goals in his last 32 appearances.

Interesting thing is though he has still been picked, regardless of his poor goals and assists tally. Shows clubs believe that he can add something positive to a game.

Ipswich have missed a trick here. Callum Marshall at West Ham, whilst same size as Connor Chaplin, scoring goals for fun in Premiership 2. Now gone to West Brom on Loan, could be crucial 5 or 8 goals for them. Muamba might be a worthy loan punt, but no better than Freddie tbh. That elusive Marcus Stewart all over again would be amazing.

Can't see why we would be interested in him. Next, please.

"Linked". It's almost as if the transfer window is closing tomorrow and newspapers/agents are desperately trying to drum up interest

Hopefully we get another striker and cover for Davis too by end of tomorrow but hopeful thinking. Blackburn are playing hard ball with Gallagher, I think they would not turn down £2m though if we offered. As for this guy it’s an interesting one, Sheff Weds want more than a million for a 33 year winger which is hopeful on their behalf. I think this could be a busy last day in the transfer window something tells me.

Rely on M A and KM ;but even they can’t prevail upon other Clubs ,so have to keep the cards close to the chest .

The January windows are often very tricky which made our last one seem quite remarkable. I guess that all will be revealed on the last day of this one and I would be very surprised if we do not get Gallagher and another striker in, perhaps a loan from a Prem club rather than the German guy.
MA seems to have been very strong in his stance of not paying silly money and seems to be continuing that approach in this window but where decent strikers are concerned it always seems to be a sellers market. Let us see the state of play at the close of the window on Thursday night.....

The last player we signed on a transfer deadline day -Ahadme- he didn’t get the chance to do that well for us was he acquired in desperation?

Europablue my point was that this would be the 2nd window where expectations that the Club set have not been met as things stand, so we need to ensure we address that before the summer which would THEN be a third window in a row. Apology accepted

Agree Europablue, saved me typing it myself! Truth of the matter is that none of us know a thing about these signings. Al Hamadi seems to have been well recieved but this guy is a definite no? Prior to a few stats being reported on TWTD the majority (me included) wouldn't even know what position these guys play! I'll leave it to the professionals.

@PortmanTerrorist - what expectations aren't being met? We consistently bring in better players & upgrade the squad & currently sit 2nd in the Championship. We do all this in the shadow of FFP, with other clubs around us financially & player quality wise towering over us. We're hitting well above our weight in pretty much every area with a few blips along the way. This is reality, not expectation. Trust the long term plan that's got us this far.

I don't think KM has ever looked at strikers as the main source of goals. He wants a striker that fits into his way of playing and will create space and chances for others around him. Being a striker he will of course score some goals but it's how many the team score that matters. I trust that KM knows what he wants and if we can't get what he wants then we won't just buy for the sake of it.

He looks quite a handful for the opposition to me. KM could work with that.

Portmanterrorist it’s not championship manager on your PC. Fact is spending is at a massive low compared to other years in the prem unless they buy players they won’t release any meaning the kind of players you want won’t filter down it’s plain and simple even my 8 year old nephew understands that yet a minority on here don’t. There have been NO broken promises made anyway just that we will compete and we have been. No one even in the championship is buying anyone significant even the big three who came down so chill out ffs
