Jackson, Ball and Camara Released as Town Announce Retained List
Monday, 3rd Jun 2024 17:06

Town have announced their retained list with Kayden Jackson, Dominic Ball and Panutche Camara released, while options have been taken to keep Christian Walton, Cameron Burgess, Axel Tuanzebe and Idris El Mizouni at Portman Road, Vaclav Hladky is in talks regarding a new deal and Janoi Donacien will continue his rehabilitation at the club ahead of pre-season training.

Jackson joined the Blues from Accrington Stanley for £1.6 million under Paul Hurst in the summer of 2018 and had a topsy-turvy time at Portman Road, having been out of the picture and seemingly on his way out of the club under Paul Lambert and Paul Cook before becoming an important member of Kieran McKenna’s squad, albeit with most of his appearances having come off the bench.

Overall, the 30-year-old forward made exactly 100 starts and 99 sub appearances for the club, scoring 28 goals.

Ball joined Town after leaving QPR in the summer of 2022 but never established himself in the team, the Blues’ form and injury limiting his opportunities.

The 28-year-old made 13 starts - five in the league - and 22 sub appearances, scoring one goal.

“Kayden and Dominic have both been important members of a group which has achieved significant success over the last two seasons,” manager Kieran McKenna said.

“Both have made vital contributions on the field and, off the pitch, have played central roles in developing a culture and setting standards which have been so important to the club's progress. Their contributions to everything the club has achieved should not be understated.

“I am certain both Kayden and Dominic will be real assets at whichever clubs they take the next steps in their careers and they will always be welcome at both Portman Road and Playford Road.”

Camara joined the Blues from Plymouth on deadline day in August 2022 but had an injury hit first campaign before being loaned to Charlton last season.

The Guinea-Bissau international made one start and three sub appearances for the Blues - just one game from the bench in the league - scoring once, in the FA Cup at Bracknell.

Donacien, who will remain at the club as he continues his rehabilitation from adductor surgery but seems likely to move on ahead of the new campaign, was regularly involved in the right-back/right centre-back role during McKenna’s first two seasons at the club, however, with injury limiting his involvement last term.

A number of clubs, including ex-Blues’ boss Paul Cook’s Chesterfield are understood to be eyeing his situation.

Keeper Hladky revealed in April that talks regarding a new deal were close to a conclusion.

Veteran forward Sone Aluko announced his retirement at the End-of-Season Dinner, while young keeper Nick Hayes has already joined National League Barnet following his release.

Midfielder Jack Manly, Town’s second-youngest senior player, has also found a new club having rejoined former loan side Leiston on a permanent basis on a one-year deal.

It’s little surprise that Town have taken the one-year options on Walton, Burgess and Tuanzebe’s deals.

The Blues will want a fee for the keeper should he move on this summer, which seems likely given his lack of involvement during 2023/24, while the Australian international has emerged as a key man over the last couple of seasons and may well be in the frame for a longer term deal.

Tuanzebe, who joined the club last summer, is the player in the squad with the most Premier League experience, albeit a total of 28 appearances, 19 for Manchester United. and nine for Aston Villa.

El Mizouni, 23, who has spent the last two years on loan at Leyton Orient may well move on on a permanent basis this summer with the year's option set to secure a fee for the midfielder's services.

Loanees Omari Hutchinson, Jeremy Sarmiento, Kieffer Moore, Lewis Travis and Brandon Williams have all left the club at the end of their spells.

Chelsea have said Omari won’t go out on loan again, will only go for a permanent move…£25 to £30m

Sad to see any player leave especially when promoted to the PL - I think of this every year when I see clubs go up and then release players that got them there. That’s football. Sometimes I cringe at interviews on the last day of the season when the players are asked how do you feel being a premiership player?

Good luck to any town player that leaves the club. Thank you for your service.

That's football.
10 now gone & 6 to 8 new players in the door, maybe even 2 of last years loan players back with us, and could be 2 from our own u23's.
Must get at least 4+ with Premier league experience.

Release can be beneficial for the player. As a free transfer, more attractive to potential new clubs, perhaps getting a signing-on fee or better wages as a result.

Jackson has seen us at absolute rock bottom and then at our best. He's the last vestiges of the Hurst era, but I'm glad he's able to leave on top.

Best of luck, lads! Thanks for all you've done over the years.

Hladky's agent waiting for a better offer, but surely we can offer him what he wants, to take him out of Celtic's league.

He exudes quality on the ball, I can't think of a better phrase than one that was used of him here on TWTD, "Hladky is integral to the way we play", none of our other two keepers are even close to the first 11 and I cannot think of any
better keepers I would rather have. We are not going to get the Villa keeper, and the Liverpool reserve keeper is not good enough.

KJ a much better squad player under KMcK and I’m sorry to see him go. A sharp diagonal crosser of the ball but rarely given the credit he deserved. Hope he does well with a new club.

I just want to make a point on here, all of Town's players without exception bought into McKenna's plan and have trained hard week in and week out regardless of selection, nobody has let us down and nobody can help injuries. These players are ours until they go.
Please don't disrespect anyone because they have been released, it happens and many like Jackson have sweat blood and tears for the cause.
If you can't wish our players well, then just scroll on by and say nothing, I'm sure for them it's bad enough they are leaving, don't judge please.

There’s probably 17 or 18 on there who will make the final squad plus Humphreys (U21) that leaves plenty of room for some quality/experienced signings. If we take up our allowance of 2 loans, it should be until January in case they’re not up to it, with an option to extend in case they are.

Personally don't feel Harness/Clarke/El Mizouni are good enough to be retained...slap em' on the transfer list, a few others will have to up their game at PL level but no doubt will become more of a squad member.

Amazing how positive about their time with us at least three players have been on leaving the club. Speaks volumes for the culture put in place by McK and all the others involved. Long may it last.

I think the player with the most potential had he not been so injury prone, is Camara. I believe bad luck robbed us of a very talented midfielder. Not surprised that Jackson and Ball are leaving, they gave their best, but in my opinion, their best was never good enough for the Premiership. I wish them well. Mizouni has to be sold, I think it’s a good move. I can’t see him being part of any PL squad.

Sorry, unpopular yes, but at 50 and with a dodgy knee, I reckon my goals to games ratio would be better than Jackson!!!

We have to clear out those that are simply not good enough for the top flight in order to have any chance of staying up and being competitive. There can be no emotion in business and that’s what we are in. Whilst I wish Kayden all the best for the future, I am not one that will lose any sleep over him leaving after five or six seasons where he has barely set the World on fire.

I thought that McK had plans to keep Walton but had to remind myself of his "dying swan"match against Charlton.

Sad to see players go we've grown fond of, but now Jackson has gone, there's only Donacien left from the Hurst signings or beyond.

I think Jackson could be a decent squad player and am sad to see him go. Wish him all the best and he should be aiming for the top half of the Championship not League 1 he's definitely too good for that.

I would've focused on moving on other players such as Humphries, Ladapo, Donacien, Ndaba . However Kieran and the club haven't got much wrong so far so I should trust his judgement COYB
