Philogene Personal Terms Agreed But Villa Still Keen
Tuesday, 9th Jul 2024 12:35

Hull City winger Jaden Philogene is reported to have agreed a five-year deal with the Blues with the move expected to go ahead but not yet 100 per cent with his former club Aston Villa now believed to be keen.

Town and the Tigers have agreed a joint deal for Philogene and centre-half Jacob Greaves understood to be worth, depending on reports, £35-£40 million plus add-ons.

According to The Athletic, £18 million of that sum covers the recruitment of Philogene, who has already agreed a five-year deal with the Blues.

However, while the move is expected to go through, they report that Philogene’s former club Aston Villa, who he left to join the Tigers for £5 million a year ago, have matching rights until Wednesday, which they are reported to be ready to activate having been linked earlier in the summer, although while accepting the matter will ultimately be decided by the player, who appears keen to join Town. Everton and Crystal Palace are also believed not to be entirely out of the race.

As reported earlier, last night’s claims that the 22-year-old has been pencilled in for a medical at Town are premature, however, assuming Villa’s interest comes to nothing, it seems likely that that will take place before the end of the week and both deals concluded from there. Greaves has already had his medical and a five-year deal has been agreed.

Earlier today, widespread reports claimed Everton had had a £16 million offer accepted for Philogene, however, that been dismissed by local Hull media with Town’s currently the only firm offer on the table.

Philogene is a London lad so it has to be Ipswich for him as London is 3/4 hour down the A12 plus KM will develop him to a quality all-around player, he did say a week ago that Ipswich is his choice of club for the game time and development

Villa's buy back option was based on them matching any other highest offer, however it was on the basis that Hull were promoted to the Premier League which clearly they weren't so no issue for us here.

his and like a few Agents seem ropey. That’s one reason I’m not fussed with this move

Villa's buy back option expires on Wednesday that's what's holding things up. Absolutely no idea who he's going to sign for sooner it's all over the better Thursday we will know.

Speaking to Hull Live, City's vice-chairman Tan Kesler confirmed Villa would have first refusal to buy Philogene for a fixed fee of £15m should the Tigers win promotion to the Premier League, with the clause only coming into effect when the two clubs are in the same division.

I would be very surprised if Villa went back in for him. They only sold him to Hull 10 months ago,for 5 million, surely they wouldn't buy him back for 15-20 million, just 10 months later not exactly good business sense.

I thought Phil said that the villa clause would not apply as hull had to be in the premiership. So what villa got other than a standard interest
