New prime minister Sir Kier Starmer has congratulated Town on their promotion to the Premier League.

At this lunchtime’s first PMQs of Starmer’s tenure, newly elected Ipswich MP Jack Abbott extolled the virtues of Ipswich, adding that “unlike our friends over the border in Norfolk, we also now have a Premier League football team again. The prime minister is very welcome to join me when Arsenal come visit next year”.

In response, Starmer welcomed Abbott to the House and said: “[I’d like to] congratulate Ipswich on their promotion. I think it’s Boxing Day when they visit Arsenal. I’m going to resist the temptation that he puts in front of me to choose between Ipswich and Norwich!”

Paulc added 19:55 - Jul 24 Not a Starmer fan adn didn't vote for Abbott but how could you moan about this in any way? Can't argue against any of the points Abbott raised and the only thing Starmer said I'd object to is that he won't choose between us or "that lot" up the road. Surely he realises he doesn't have to choose Nodge aren't playing Arsenal in the league this year!

I feel football sites should be for stories about the sides and what's happening within the club and ex player news, fans doing good work raising money for charity etc that's all, not a famous person saying well done. Not absolutely everything ever linked to Town needs to be on here. It's just opinion, though, eh, not fact.
