U21s to Face Borussia Mönchengladbach Thursday, 1st Aug 2024 21:12 Town’s U21s will now face Borussia Mönchengladbach in tomorrow’s friendly in Heimstetten rather than the first team.
John McGreal is set to take the team with Elkan Baggott and Cieran Slicker the most senior players set to be involved.
A statement on the club site reads: “The scheduled game with Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday will now feature a Town U21 side.
“The Blues’ first-team arrived in Germany on Wednesday for a second overseas training camp of the summer, with games against Gladbach and Hoffenheim scheduled for Friday and Saturday respectively.
“However, the game with Gladbach in Heimstetten will now be contested by our U21 side, giving the Town youngsters an opportunity to test themselves against strong opposition as part of their own pre-season.
“The Town first-team will then face Hoffenheim in Kufstein on Saturday as planned, allowing the majority of Kieran McKenna’s squad to play significant minutes as a unit with two weeks to go before the start of the Premier League season.”

As above, the most important thing is fitness and preparation for Liverpool. Sounds like a refund for tickets is available. Town TV might require a few people to ask then you might get the Nice game for free or something. Enjoy wunderbar Deutschland!

Another top tip... Travel by train from Munich to Kaufstein tomorrow; get a "Bayern ticket" it's 29 euro and is valid on all modes of public transport for the day of travel. I'm using it to go from Regensburg to the game.

You’ve got to be kidding me! Paid £1k on flights & hotel in the understandable expectation we’d be seeing the first team with new signings and we get to watch the U21’s with the two ‘senior’ players likely to be going out on loan within the next fortnight. Was p*ssed off with the shabby way was dealt with having had tickets in D Block for donkeys years and todays another kick in the nuts.

But as my wife just reminded me “ Still it’s football and beer and a break from the norm. What’s your problem?” As always, she’s right! Well, almost always.

Thanks Blues1, I’m counting Shakhtar, Fortuna, Hoffenheim and Nice as the four games. Which one is the fifth and who were the closed doors friendlies? Last season we had a lot more; Preston, Cambridge, Stevenage, Werder Bremen, RB Leipzig, Spartak Trnava, Flyeralarm Admira Wacker, Luton Town. Even if some of those were 60 minute games, it was a lot more football.

Same old drivel from the same moaners on here! There was NEVER any assurances it would be first teams playing. If you want to watch the first team get to the ground. This in most fans opinion is prudent. We don’t need two friendlies in 24 hours when we don’t have the numbers as yet. We could afford some injuries in the championship but we can’t in the prem or we’ll have the same minority on here moaning about that!! Also go and check Arsenal, Man Utd, and every other prem team they only have two FIRST TEAM friendlies left before the season starts SAME AS US!

@blues1, turns out we played Felixstowe and Walton plus Maidenhead United last pre-season too with the first team. So that was 10 fan attended friendlies last pre-season vs 4 plus 2 non-fan attended friendlies this pre-season. That sounds incredibly light to me.
