Town Closing In On Swedish International Wednesday, 14th Aug 2024 14:39 Town are closing in on the loan signing of Napoli’s Swedish international midfielder Jens Cajuste.
The 25-year-old had been near to joining Brentford on a loan with a view to a £10 million permanent signing, however, that switch broke down after the Gothenburg-born schemer apparently failed a medical.
As per various Italian reports, Cajuste is very close to joining Town on loan with no clause relating to a later purchase with talks regarding personal terms ongoing.
Cajuste, who has won 23 full caps, started his career in Sweden with Örgryte IS before moving on to Denmark’s Midtjylland and then Reims in France.
He joined Napoli for €12 million (£10 million) a year ago, signing a five-year deal.
Last season, Cajuste recorded two assists in 26 appearances for Napoli without scoring.
Town have been looking to add to their midfield ranks, having so far made no additions in that area of their squad. Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips is also a target, while former Brighton man Steven Alzate has been on trial.
If the deal is concluded, Everton have also been linked since the Brentford deal broke down, Cajuste would become Town's first loan signing of the summer.
Premier League clubs are allowed only two domestic loans at one time, four over the course of a season, as well as six international loans, although with exemptions relating to players under-21.
Town’s last Swedish player was striker Jonas Axeldal, who was a member of the squad which won promotion to the Premier League in 2000. The Blues’ only other Swede was loanee forward Niklas Gudmundsson, who was in the side which reached the play-offs in 1996/97.

Failing a medical is more of a risk assessment rather than being medically unfit, rather like buying and older car and deciding whether to risk buying or not.

Packwoodbkue. Just bcse he gets forward doesnt mean he's bit a holding midfielder. Morsy does the same.

Video footage makes him look good. KMc must believe he matches our ethics. Hopefully his medical will be positive. We need to buy Sammy S. Believe in the process.

Great spot Whitstable !!

Strange that so many posters talk about a failed medical when the piece that Whitstable posts says that the medical had been completed, though admittedly it didn’t say he’d passed. Goes on though to say that other issues were raised afterwards.

The negativity on here is unreal. He’s an international been playing for Napoli, way above the current level of player we have and you’re calling it desperate and panic button. You need to get a grip. Who do you think we are gonna sign?

Tractorboybig Napoli were champions year before last of Serie A, finished 10th this season. He played 26 times still. I love the team we have but it doesn’t take a genius to see the level he is at. Theirs is very few of our current squad who have even played premier league until now.

Trwcrorboybig. He's played for sweden 23 times. That suggests he's a level above what we have.

Seen a long vid of him, and one things for certain the guy can tackle. Many challenges coming away with ball too.

Don't mind the look of him to be honest, stats look decent and will be good addition, regardless of rumours on "failed medical". Think Napoli trying to move him on to make way for Gilmour to come in! But jeez some people are touchy over opinions on players! If someone doesn't fancy a player, doesn't mean they are all out against McKenna and co

Could be an issue that would cause a team to take pause before paying ten million, but not an actual issue at the moment. There could be many such reasons for this. So I don't see the failed medical as a huge issue, as long as he passes our for a loan. @Dino_F bloody brilliant!!!!

The most deluded fans in the world are by a long way Norwich fans! They beat Stevenage and now they are a sure bet for Auto promotion, Pure comedy! We are so much more level headed than that lot up the road, but when I read some of the comments on here I am flabbergasted, none of us know the reason this deal broke down, Itfc will carry out their own medical! This would be a class signing if we get him and of course he passes the medical, if anything we wil be more stringent in our medical. It's a loan FFs! My guess is this, Brentford were entering into an obligation to buy loan, so if there is a medical issue however minor it was something the bees didnt feel they 100 % right about, us on the other hand its a season long loan, no real risk and we dont know what the salary arrangement would be. I trust the club on this and if it doesn't work out, there are other irons in the fire!

As a player he's very impressive, no qualms about that at all, my only concern vis the medical bit, true none of us know if he failed it or why he failed it etc. Our situation is that we have to strengthen, if this guy is fit and ready to go then fantastic, we have a real asset on our hands, we cannot afford another Hirst or Broadhead, that's the only concern because our squad as it stands is pretty small.

How many more people on here need to understand that McK knows a hell of a lot more about footballers than any of us so how do we qualify to query his decisions.
