Blues Again Linked With Burnley Defender O'Shea
Monday, 19th Aug 2024 14:04

Town are again being linked with Burnley central defender Dara O’Shea.

Almost a fortnight ago, it was reported that the 25-year-old Republic of Ireland international had turned down the chance to join the Blues, opting instead to move to Brentford.

According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon the Blues are eyeing a £10 million deal for the Dubliner, although Town sources are playing down the link.

O’Shea started his English career with West Brom having signed from schoolboy club St Kevin’s. While with the Baggies, the 6ft 1in in tall defender spent time on loan at Hereford an Exeter.

The 26-times-capped Irish international moved to Turf Moor for £7 million last summer and was a regular for the Clarets as they were relegated from the Premier League during 2023/24.

Town have signed one centre-half this summer, Jacob Greaves from Hull City, but it would be little surprise if they looked at adding another before the window closes at the end of the month.

Last week, TWTD revealed that Sheffield United’s Anel Ahmedhodžić was among the central defenders interesting the Blues.

Town are close to confirming the loan signing of Napoli’s Swedish international midfielder Jens Cajuste with the paperwork relating to the deal understood to be the delay.

It’s understood there’s a loan fee of €1.5 million (£1.3 million) with a mandatory €12 million (£10.2 million) buy-out should Town stay up.

Just waiting for tgex1stcperson to come and say, he turned us,down, so we don't want him now. Well, we dont know he actually did, he's only reported to have done. Cannot believe everything that is reported. And apart from that, who cares. If je does sign for us, then clearly he'd want to come here, or he'd just stay where he is.

Jacob Greaves worth £15 million + ,and he only worth £10 million with PL exprience ?It doesn't make sense !

I know this is nothing to do with this story but have we got Jens Cajuste yet, I've seen nothing reported but Wikipedia says hes a Town player!!!

A central defensive partnership of O'Shea & Greaves will provide a very solid defensive base. With Phillips as a defensive pivot, should provide good attacking options for both Davis and Johnson!

Kuyski, I’ve not seen O’Shea play, but I’ve seen Greaves on Saturday. In my humble opinion, he’s worth every penny of that £15m.

Can't see Woolfenden retaining his place long term. There appears to be a gradual changeover of the promoted players who will become the back ups and, dependent on whether we stay up will also gradually leave to championship clubs to be replaced by new premiership level players.

Expect Ladapo and Edmundsen to be moved on shortly along with Humphries on loan to free up squad places.

Wolfenden and Greaves looked very good together for the most part on Saturday, all things considered. But another option with more experience than Wolfenden cannot hurt. Then we'll have good numbers across the defence. Could see Fridge moving on if that were the case.

Can't help but feel Cajuste is a more important signing, considering how easily we were overrun in midfield in the second half (and that Phillips will be ineligible for the next game).

Greaves showed on Saturday why we paid £15m and by the end of the season will attract bids well in excess of that.

Comical view that O’Shea should be worth more than Greaves because he has premier experience. We obviously should have paid 20 million for Jonny Evans instead.

Someone doesn't get my point!I means the price for O’Shea is not make sense only, not Greaves price !Greaves showed on Saturday was very good.

Has he had a change of heart then……if he turned Town down why would TOwn keep chasing but it is the Sun reporting

Would be a good addition him and Greaves…….The new Butcher and Osman or Beattie and Hunter….well we will see on that one

We need everyone at 110% for 90 minutes and the pace of the premier league means we will get injuries. Adding quality to the squad is essential -
No idea if he is good or not but at 25 he can be sold again
Would like to see a CB with 200 games of injury free top flight experience recruited but the who hell that is and if its in budget I have no clue.

O'Shea was fantastic for Burnley at Luton on Friday night, and on the evidence of what I've seen of him would be worth at least 15m.

MickMillTash. You've pretty much answered urxown, question. To get axl player with 200 pl games experience would be way out of our budget. And getting one whos been injury free all thst time, very unlikely, maybe impossible.

Bluepool read the report in full. Wish people would read it before commenting on it!

Liverpool were pulling us apart in that 2nd half. We need to fix that asap. I know they are one of the top top teams, but we want to eventually be fighting at that end of the table.

I'm pretty sure we have a bid in for Ahmedhodzic, so I think this is likely to be lazy paper talk or an agent trying to push a deal through with Brentford, a move he is said to want.
I am hoping for a double announcement of Cajuste & Ahmedhodzic signing for us tomorrow.

So why waste everyone's time with this nothing article ?

Reality is, we need a quick left winger of PL ability or potential, another centre half, a decent right back and at least another PL standard striker! Our squad was immense in league 1 and the championship, but the likes of Harness, Ali, Taylor (maybe), Edmonson, Clarke are not good enough for the PL! Jury is very much out on Chaplin, Burns and Wolfie too, although I suspect they’ll be surplus to requirement soon enough! Appreciate it’s a squad game, but to stay in the PL, there’s no room for sentiment!

I'd agree with that ^^^^

Paper work is the same reason reported allegedly that Cajuste failed to join Brentford. Greaves looks every inch a future England player to me. The lack of athletesism in the centre of midfield in the second half on Saturday was alarming and will need rectifying if we are to survive in the Premier league.

know it was a very good Liverpool team. We would have learned a lot where improvements required

I was clearly at a different game to some on here. Wolfie for me had a superb game as did Greaves and Tuanzebe. Edmundson is vital cover and has sufficient pace and strength for the PL. Our midfield was overrun last season against Leeds twice and Southampton and McKenna will be aware of the lack of pace hence our recruiting. Massimo was incredible first half but run out of steam as did many others which is likely when playing at such high intensity.
Beezer you missed Burgess off your list !!!
