Broja Deal On Brink
Saturday, 24th Aug 2024 11:37

Town’s loan move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja is close to breaking down.

Earlier in the week, the Blues agreed a season-long loan for the the 22-year-old with the move set to become permanent if Town stay up in a deal worth an overall £30 million.

Broja was at Portman Road for his medical and to complete the formalities on Wednesday with the expectation that the switch would subsequently be confirmed.

But since then the club has continued to work on the due diligence and paperwork relating to deal and, as per The Guardian, with matters dragging on, the move is now in danger of breaking down completely. Town are understood to be looking at other options.

Broja was initially linked with Town early on the summer before reports that Town had made a loan approach emerged just over a week ago.

The prospect of the move happening was played down by various sources, however, we understand the player and his representatives visited Playford Road on Friday and that appears to have swung things in Town’s direction.

Slough-born Broja, who is 6ft 3in tall, moved to Stamford Bridge from Tottenham’s youth set-up in 2009.

Since then, he has spent time on loan at Vitesse, Southampton and Fulham, while making 11 starts and 27 sub appearances, scoring three goals for his parent club.

His stint with the Saints saw him net nine times in 24 starts and 14 games from the bench, while the spell at Fulham in the second half of last season saw him make only eight sub appearances without finding the net.

Capped by Albania at full level 23 times, scoring five goals, and featuring at Euro 2024.

Broja had previously been linked with a move to Everton and it’s understood the Toffees remain keen.

Wonder whether we have added terms to the £30 million compulsory signing at the end of the season when we stay up. Something like 20+ starts and 10+ goals. Need to protect ourselves against us staying up and he has made minimal contribution.

None of us know the full facts, it is almost certain money is involved , perhaps agents demands.Truth be told this is the only player we have looked to sign that has been at a big club for ant time so it probably feels like a big comedown for him and his enterourage will be thinking are the wheels about to come off re their future income. Note Phillips deal has no obligation to buy and the intricacies involved. Hope the lad sees sense and truly wants to play regularly. He is no good left to rot at Chelsea. Best to compromise and get McKenna working with him.

Ashton & staff know the game.
I feel reassured they are doing their due diligence & trust that the best outcome for the club under current conditions will happen, no matter how they appear to us now.
Rumours, gossip, desperate need to know & speculate are an understandable need for some on here but let's give the people responsible who gave got us to this lofty position some credit they know more than we do & acting on it. They see the massive picture.
We will continue to move forward whilst in their hands.

Not too disappointed that this has collapsed. He was at Ipswich hospital having a scan so not sure whether something wasn’t quite right with his medical or it’s genuinely paperwork.

It's down to how much he wants per week next season should we sign him. Personally I'm glad we are walking away.

Have to admit I haven't been over excited over him joining us, always felt wrong to me!

Not surprised. I'd be much more upset if it was Clarke. That said, I hope the latter is soon confirmed.

If it's medical, the hold up is we are renegotiating likely both wages and the mandatory buy.

@Phil need to update the article, he and his agent visited several Friday's ago, not yesterday!

Probably better off looking elsewhere, he's got a terrible injury record.

1 week to go, we surely have other options? Too light on no9s with Hirst injured.

Lots of speculation, whilst none of us here know the full story. It is being widely reported it's his Achilles injury that has almost scuppered the deal.

I'd say - don't count out how shrewd we (specifically MA) can be to get a good deal. Yes, maybe there is some risk maybe it's even very low risk, but with Chelsea having till the end of the week to offload around 15 players - we could be using this as a bargaining chip to significantly reduce the price. And why not!

I think we may still see him arrive... at a discount!

Something didn't feel right to me but no point in speculating. If we do get him or someone else it will put Hirst down the pecking order, don't think he's ready for the Prem anyway. Somehow the whole feelgood feeling has gone a bit but that is the Prem. Some great signings so far apart from Muric who's reputation was even mentioned on TalkSport this morning, Burnley must love us.
