Town's Broja Deal Off
Thursday, 29th Aug 2024 15:36

Town’s move for Chelsea striker Armando Broja is off.

Last week, the Blues and West Londoners agreed terms on a season-long loan which would become a £30 million permanent switch but an achilles issue emerged during the Albanian international’s medical.

Since then, the clubs have maintained a dialogue with a view to renegotiating the terms of the deal, while Chelsea carried out their own scan on the injury, which was expected to sideline the 22-year-old for around seven weeks, earlier this week.

Ultimately, however, the move has now broken down and, according to The Athletic, Broja could now join another club before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline - Everton have been strongly linked - but it seems more likely he will stay at Chelsea and rehabilitate his injury.

Town will now look elsewhere to add a striker to their squad before the window closes with a number of players having been linked in recent days.

However, while we understand there has been some interest, Burnley’s Lyle Foster is not close to the top of the list, while Cercle Brugge striker Kevin Denkey and Crystal Palace’s Odsonne Édouard are not believed to be being looked at.

We understand Town have a couple of candidates whose names have yet to emerge publicly and regarding whom they have made their interest known to their clubs.

A striker would be the Blues’ 13th and final addition of the window.

algarvefan Who do you think we have signed and not improved on who we have already? I don't see a glaringly bad signing in the lot of them. Granted some will reach their potential and some won't, but there are no guarantees.

This is definitely off?...what a saga, as I've said not bothered.

I'm glad this one is off because the player is injured and we don't want a clause that requires us to buy the player.

What happened to that Greek centre forward? We definitely need another number 9! Who knows when Hirst will be fully fit again! Ideally someone big and mobile, not Ings or Wilson!! Fellows and Whittaker are wingers, which we don’t need! We do however, imo need a decent right back, as I’m not convinced by Johnson and AT is a centre half who can cover at right back.

Another winger !!!!! We need a number 9 who can score ...as broja etc don't.
Morris would be ok from Luton or adebayo ...or the Greek guy

I am glad this if off, felt wrong from the beginning. As do Foster, Denkey and Édouard - it doesn't feel that they fit what McKenna wants. And Moore wasn't mobile enough. Let's keep putting our trust in McKenna and Ashton. And then we'll need to give the lads time to gel - it's can't happen quickly when you bring in 12 new faces.

Why not offer Haaland some mutton and cabbage stew? That might tempt him to join us.

I think we will be fine without another addition. But who am I to know. Just hope we don't get slapped for breaching FFP. After all, we are behaving as if we belong in the PL buying all these great players to add to the squad.

For me it's good news i couldn't see him fitting in as he has a few attitude problems as he thinks he's better than he is and when he comes up short it's always somebody else to blame shows how desperate Chelsea are trying to blackmail clubs into ridiculous buy clauses for a load of rubbish they don't want Oh well onwards and upwards we go C.O.Y.B

Looking at the possible options, we are quite limited with our potential incoming striker options! For me, and he fits the profile, I’d go after Josh Sargent! 6ft 1 inches, young number 9 who knows where the net is!

The new winger has brought our spend up to exactly 100mill. Does this mean that we are only looking FB for loan options with the new striker we are looking for?

If the deal isn't right then just as well it's fallen through. I would be very suspicious of a deal that compelled a club to buy at the end of the loan period - really does seem that such a deal is devised to offload a player with an obscure injury to an unsuspecting buyer.

Would be really happy if it was Tammy A but surely we can’t afford his wages and are Roma looking to sell? Certainly can’t see them loaning him!!
