Clarke Own Goal Given to Wissa Tuesday, 29th Oct 2024 11:47 The Premier League has announced that Brentford’s second goal during their 4-3 victory over the Blues at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday has been officially credited to Yoane Wissa and does not go down as a Harry Clarke own goal.
The Town full-back, who later conceded a penalty and was then subsequently red-carded, both debatable decisions, inadvertently bundled the ball over the line as he sought to clear with most sources initially putting it down as an own goal.
However, Brentford appealed and the Premier League’s Goal Accreditation Appeals Panel reviewed the incident and awarded it to Wissa, taking his total to five for the season. An assist has been awarded to Mikkel Damsgaard.
Clarke, who was making his full Premier League debut, now no longer has the dubious honour of being the second player to score an own goal, concede a penalty and be sent off in the same Premier League game.
The 23-year-old will be suspended for Saturday’s home game against Leicester following the dismissal.

I would love to have a chat with those in charge of VAR in the Man City game and ask why the Davis penalty wasnt even looked at or given. that was a clear and obvious error! I want to believe that Var was introduced to keep the game fair and to sort out clear and obvious errors, the more i experience it the more dubious i become in its validity as a tool to assist the ref!

After we gained promotion to the premiership. My only concern to watching a live football match was VAR. In the Championship we watched non stop football with no worries of goals being chalked off or penalties being disallowed. (Everton match comes to mind). Well if we do get relegated will it be a bad thing? Yes it would be if there was no dreaded VAR.

Totally agree Dissboy...looked at that numerous times and Savinho goes into Davis hip at an angle which is the initial contact that knocks him off balance before it looks like Davis hangs a leg out...all day long that should have gone to VAR. The Bournemouth disallowed goal against Newcastle was far and away not clear and obvious to be overturned by VAR and the more you looked at that the more it looked like a Newcastle players arm putting the ball in, a shocking decision...it does make you think!
