Town are claimed to be showing interest in Brighton midfielder Malick Yalcouye.

According to the Daily Express, Bundesliga sides Hoffenheim and Freiburg have made loan offers for the 19-year-old with the Blues also keen but yet to make an approach and with the Seagulls assessing their options.

Ivory Coast U23 international Yalcouye spent 2024/25 on loan at Sturm Graz in Austria having joined Brighton for £6 million from IFK Goteborg last summer. He had moved to the Allsvenskan side in the preceding February from Ivorian club ASEC Mimosas.

Yalcouye, who is 5ft 7in tall, was born in Mali and also qualifies to play international football for the country of his birth.

Despite having signed Dutchman Azor Matusiwa from Rennes in France on Sunday, the Blues are in the market for more central midfielders with loanees Jens Cajuste and Kalvin Phillips having moved on at the end of the season, Massimo Luongo having been released and skipper Sam Morsy close to joining Kuwait SC.

As revealed yesterday, Town are keen to sign Middlesbrough’s England U21 international Hayden Hackney.

At his age he can’t afford to stall his career again being a bit-part player. Would be fairer to let him move on to a club he can play regularly again if that’s the case.

Needs must this season and if we have to loan players to get us back up so be it! Humphreys is lightweight and good enough would have controlled the playoff game v Charlton but I saw nothing to suggest he becomes an ITFC squad player let alone a first teamer! Cat 1 status will hopefully breed more home grown talent which we all want to see but this game is brutal and Cameron Humphreys is sadly not thee answer to the departing Mass and Sam! COYB

blueoutlook added 18:04 - Jul 16 No to another youngster. We have our own. We need a bit of experience in the middle of the pitch rather than kids and a bit of height in the team in general. I don’t want us to keep bringing other clubs players on. Let’s have our own or we will never make that permanent jump to being a constant in the PL.

armchaircritic59 added 18:16 - Jul 16 Physical strength doesn't come from height, it comes from, well, physique! Body build etc. You can get someone 6ft plus, built like a string bean and someone who's 5ft 7ins and is built like a brick----house! Height is a small part of the equation.

Linkboy13 added 19:48 - Jul 16 Yes Tractorboy1985 Cameron Humphreys is a player i like a lot but feel he's probably not up to championship level at the moment and is at the same level as El Mizouni who struggled last season at Oxford United. Time is still on his side and another season in league one might be more beneficial Keiran McKenna and his coaching staff will assess him in pre season and decide what's the best way forward.
