McKenna: Aro Knows He Could Have Dealt With It Better Friday, 1st Nov 2024 16:32 Town boss Kieran McKenna says keeper Aro Muric knows he could have dealt with Brentford’s 96th-minute fourth goal better, but that it shouldn’t be forgotten that the Kosovan international made important saves earlier on in the game and that he has his support.
Muric has come in for criticism regarding the goal, Bryan Mbeumo’s cross finding its way into the corner of the net to claim all three points for the Bees deep into injury time with the Blues looking like they’d grabbed a point via Liam Delap’s 86th-minute strike.
“In any goal it's easy to pick the last bit of it. We'll always look at the build-up to it as well,” McKenna said.
“We could have managed the clock a little bit better at that stage at 3-3 with time on the clock, so we could have managed the situation better as a team to avoid the situation.
“But on the other hand, with 10 men away from home, there's always a chance that the ball can come in a box and, of course, Aro knows that he could have dealt with it a little bit better.
“He's a really proud professional and holds himself to really high standards, so he would have liked to have done better on the goal.
“But we're not quick to forget that they had a couple of other chances, both at 11–v-11 and with 10 men, that he made good saves.
“And I think he's another player who's settling into the team. He’s had some really good moments, made some big saves and he's still settling into a new group, a new style of play and new teammates.
“We think he's a really good character and he cares deeply about doing well for the team, and cares deeply about doing well for the club.
“So he's got our support, of course, and like all the other players, he's tried to train well this week, pick himself up and be ready to help the team as much as possible.”

We still need to see what Slicker's qualities are since his move from Man City I've heard excellent reports of his ability and all-round game. But I still say bring Walton back between the sticks and give him some game time. and we must change the lineups to 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 as we are being sussed out with 4-2-3-1 as we have a glut of strikers and Wingers who need more feeding not just kick and rush tactics

I’m my view, yes he’s made mistakes but as we’ve jumped a level, so have most of the other players. It’s painful when we concede poor goals but it’s to be expected at this point and everyone is going to get better. So Imho it’s premature and wrong to single out one player… in this case Aro. In earlier games it was DoS, Ben J, KP. And if it hadn’t been for that 4th goal, people probably would not have posted half of what they have. Let’s trust KM and esp try to keep the moans down whilst he does his job. Esp inside PR

Music is on of those keepers who makes miracle saves and then switches off. This means he can be a top keeper because you can cure the switching off bit. He will become a top keeper under McKenna. I would get the competition going by giving Walton a run of games though. The last Brentford goal was strange. My first impression was that Mbuemo was shaping to curl it top left and didn’t quite strike it correctly. But even from behind the goal at the other end you could see it was an easy save. He hesitated for ages. Very odd.

Such a poor keeper he has to be dropped then sold

I also feel he was a bad buy. Appears to not communicate with his defence which is crucial. Much has been said about Waltons debut, but that was only one game. Winner of golden glove award & the best keeper at our club

Any defence needs to have confidence in the goalkeeper and I am unsure how ours stand on this point. It seems that for every decent save there is a mistake waiting to happen. McKenna paid a lot of money for this guy and I know that he likes to be loyal to his players, which is a good thing most of the time, but ignoring the obvious could prove costly. Walton deserves a run in the Team.

I see Haladsky thought he had done the right move !! He now sits on the Bench with Farrow now the No. 1

You’re right Gav, let’s get behind him! We have no choice really, do feel there are many more howlers to come. Would have preferred to have kept Hladky and 10 million. So not convinced by him and felt at the time Walton should have kept the shirt after the Liverpool game. I just hope thst if the mistakes continue KM will do the right thing and replace him between the posts!
