Town Submit Car Park Plans
Friday, 20th Dec 2024 11:41

Town have submitted plans for the development of the car park area behind the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand.

The car park, on the land the former Staples and Better Gym building, which the club purchased in October 2021, used to occupy, will have 168 spaces - including six electric vehicle charging points - used by club staff and external broadcasters on a matchday.

The news comes as no surprise with chief financial officer Tom Ball having mentioned that club was close to applying for planning permission at the recent PLC AGM.

The work, which is hoped will get under way in the new year, will see the entry and exit point on Chancery Road modified and 17 spaces will also returned to the Travelodge hotel with another separate entry and exit point on Russell Road for its guests.

The temporary hoardings will be removed making a more open space, which the club say will give cleaner access points for vehicles and pedestrians.

Town also say they expect to make a further application for temporary facilities at their Playford Road training ground later this week ahead of the major redevelopment for which planning permission was recently lodged.

I hope we've been advised by Wycombe, they know how to sell out a car park.

So a car park for staff which was, unless i misunderstood the narrative at the Forum, a partial solution to the trebling of the IBC charges? Clearly not!

168 spaces and only 6 electric charging points - and the govt expect us all to be plugging in within a decade

If that plan is anyway near to accurate then there will be a problem with people queuing to enter the stadium on match days. The queues are pretty bad now so people will be lining up between parked cars.

Pity it is not going to be used for the home supporters coaches which remain marooned in Portman Walk after each game.

A little surprised that this land is only used for car parking. Maybe I was expecting too much, but I was thinking in terms of a larger club shop, a conference centre associated with the Club or something else that would be a facility to bring revenue into the Club.

I was at least expecting a multi story car park. even with direct entrance at higher than ground level
