Everton Linked With Permanent Move For Philogene
Tuesday, 7th Jan 2025 12:21

Everton are reported to have made a move to sign Town target Jaden Philogene on a permanent basis.

In July, with Everton also having shown interest, the Blues had agreed a joint-deal with Hull City for the forward and teammate Jacob Greaves with the Philogene side of the proposed move understood to be worth £18 million and the player having agreed personal terms at Portman Road.

However, his former club Aston Villa had 72 hours within which to exercise matching rights as part of the deal they had agreed with the Tigers the previous summer, which they did and Philogene returned to Villa Park for £13 million - the Midlanders also taking advantage of their 30 per cent sell-on - with the forward signing a five-year contract.

However, since then the England U21 international has made only three starts - two in the Premier League - and 11 sub appearances.

Villa are known to be willing to allow Philogene to move out on loan in January but, according to various reports, the Toffeemen have opened talks with Villa regarding a permanent switch for the 22-year-old.

Town are still keen on bringing Philogene to Portman Road and would presumably also be interested in a permanent deal should Villa be willing to sell.

The Blues are in the market for forwards this window with a number nine a priority and perhaps two players for the roles behind on the list.

On Friday, Liverpool rebuffed a £16 million offer for Ben Doak, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, with Crystal Palace also having made a bid. Both clubs are expected to pursue their interest further with the Reds said to want between £25 and £30 million for the 19-year-old.

I don't agree with the argument that we bought Championship players just in case we got relegated. We should have bought players to keep us in the Prem, surely.

Carberry - I think we had a problem where we had to improve the squad in many positions and needed to protect ourselves longer term. That’s the way I see it personally. We have made a stronger squad, where as an experienced quality top league player would have cost maybe 2 or 3 players that we have brought in.

It’s difficult due to our fast jumps through the league.

Not sure what comment meant re Delap? Of course we want to keep him and will he under contract, take huge bid. We got Omari from Chelsea, Ben Johnson from West Ham, Phillips from Man City, Cajuste from Lazio, Muric and O'Shea from just relegated from Prem Burnley. We only got J Clarke, Szmodicks and Greaves from Championship oh and Townsend, sorry if I missed anyone.

I think the recruitment has been spot on as will this transfer be, I think now we will stay up as others teams are really struggling above us and gap closing but I think the contingency if we do go down is our squad will be exceptional to bounce back but I firmly believe we will stay up and then consolidate our place in Premiership.

It's just paper talk and hype re Delap he is our player and our asset now, Mckenna seen tge talent and swooped, he plays every week and looks really happy in a town shirt.

Just my opinion.

Hopefully if we stay up,Delap would be happy to stay and continue learning and developing under Mckenna for at least another season.
Let's face it,if he were to move on,it would take a monster offer for Town to even consider it.
This guy could be England's number 9,for the next 10 years.
As I've previously pointed out,if Havertz went for 65 million, Delap has to be worth 80-100 million.

I'm not writing anyone off but as Mckenna said players will go and its been reported today Town will l8sten to offers for Woolfeden and Clarke .
We now have an abundance of defenders so someone will go, who do you suggest if not them 2? Can't see it being Burgess, Woolfeden has done great too, whispers Rangers want him.
I know the League One/Championship stars are heroes
but I don't think Godfery would of been signed on loan if Mckenna was happy with Clarke and Burns.
We have Tunazabe, Johnson, Godfrey, O'Shea, Greaves, Davis, Townsend, Baggott to come back with Edmondson . We just can't keep everyone, we aren't going to sell new signings so time will tell who goes, can only have 25 in squad.
