Al-Hamadi Close to West Brom Loan Tuesday, 21st Jan 2025 10:41 Blues striker Ali Al-Hamadi is close to joining Championship West Brom on loan.
The 22-year-old has been Town’s third-choice frontman this season but his only starts came in the cup ties against his former club AFC Wimbledon and Bristol Rovers.
In the summer, the Iraqi international was close to signing for Derby on loan but the move didn’t happen after Town pulled out of the deal to sign Armando Broja on loan from Chelsea.
A loan to a Championship club during January has always looked on the cards with the Blues known to want to bring in a more senior frontman during this window.
It’s understood Al-Hamadi is at West Brom to undergo a medical and complete the formalities on his switch.
Iraq-born, Liverpool raised Al-Hamadi joined Town for around £1 million from AFC Wimbledon in January last year and has made three starts - one in the league - and 24 sub appearances, scoring five times. His only goal this season came in the Carabao Cup tie against his old club at Plough Lane in August.
Ali looks set to become Tony Mowbray’s first signing after returning to the Hawthorns.
The one-time Wycombe frontman’s departure would free-up a space in Town’s 25-man Premier League squad, which has to be resubmitted shortly after the transfer window closes at 11pm on Monday 3rd February.
Elsewhere, former Blues striker Tyreece Simpson, 22, has joined League Two Colchester United on loan for the rest of the season from Stevenage.

Still wonder if this loan is a bit high for him. Currently he doesn't have the environment to thrive and develop at Ipswich, but I would have thought a loan move to a less ambitious club in the Champ would help him. Good luck, Ali. Hope you bang in a few.

Agree, not really seen enough from him to say he's championship quality. Think a top league 1 club could have been good. Main thing is must mean incoming striker and more importantly delap going no where

Good luck Ali, hope it goes really well for you!

I would like us to sign Callum Wilson on loan. We also need a box to box midfielder.

That's a relief, hopefully sell a couple also. Hamadi was bought fron Leafue 2 as a young lad, he rarely got in team in league 1 or Championship, this loan will determine whether Championship is his level or not, he certainly isn't Prem ready, if he does get run of games and scores he will get a move to Championship next season (won't stay with us even if relegated) but if he fails to find net then a season being prolific in league one could do him wonders. At least he can say he played in Prem and took one of worst penalties in Prem history. Good luck to him. Let's see who Mckenna and Ashton have enticed to Town, I was hoping Will Lankshear but with Solanke now injured I doubt it, so maybe an older prem striker in Callum Wilson if fit or maybe we are buying Maja from West Brom and have loaned them Hamadi with an option to buy in return. Let's see! COYB

With regard to Al-Hamada, asking him to go from League Two to the Championship in one bound was enormous; asking him then to go to PL level was too far. Tony Mowbray will get the best out of him. With regard to Simpson, it is very sad to see. KMc wanted him to stay, but he thought that the grass was greener elsewhere. He has now dropped from mid-table League One to mid-table League Two. I suppose that he is still young enough to succeed, but his career only seems to be going in one direction.

Whatever happens in Ali's future career,at least he can always say,I was the only Iraqi to ever play in the Premier League.Which in itself is a tremendous achievement. Whatever happens I wish him all the very best in his future career, wherever that maybe.

Callum Wilson? You’re lucky if you get 5 games in row without him being injured. You can’t take that risk bringing a high earner in on loan. Like the positive thinking, but not realistic.
Swoody added 13:32 - Jan 21
To be fair to Ali he has been carrying an injury most of the time he has been with us so we have never seen fully what he can do, hopefully he now stays fit and gets a good run of games.

Good outcome for Ali The Hammer, at a decent side with the legend that is Mogga. I hope he does well.

Great move for him. Needs regular football. And penalty practice.

Hernandez from Columbus Crew would be good, 18 Million MVP 2 season in row in MLS, only 25 etc get the owners tap him on shoulder. I think Callum Wilson is match ready but one who fits the young player, asset mould would be Taj Wright, in terms midfielder Finn Azaz is great at Boro.

A loan is good for Al Hamadi because he needs to play and for us because we need a third striker who is better than him. I doubt that he will start many games for WBA though. I think a League 1 club would've been better for him.

I can't see Ali getting any more game time at West Brom than he is with us. They have aspirations and bearing in mind how useful they played against us last season, how mobile and well organised they were......very much as we were, I just don't see it working. A top League 1 or lesser Championship side would have made more sense to me. As has been said above, he seems to be blowing after 5 minutes, and is far less influential in his chasing down than our other forwards, plus most of the good things appear to happen by accident (for me). Bought to develop, and a bit like the rest of the squad, the Premier League experience is coming a year or two ahead of schedule, hence why our lack of nous, skill and quality is lacking, and unfortunately the confidence and belief is evaporating for some. I have managed to get tickets for the next couple of home games so will still be cheering and singing them on with the rest of you boys and girls. COYB

I imagine Delap will not want to be back down in the Championship with us next year (as per his and our current diverging trajectories) so Ali could well be back in that scenario. I'm not sure he's suited to lone striker and certainly not in the Prem.

With Maja doing well there I can only see him in a role as he had with us a year ago - coming on the last 30 mins. I would have thought a loan to a good L1 side would be better this season and Championship next season....

I dont think Delap will go anywhere, Chelsea just want everyone, Delap is not getting in ahead of what they have, Man U defo not, Arsenal & Spurs could be a worry or Newcastle if they get a big offer for Issak but then again, Delap and Issak etc are under big contracts so the clubs don't have to sell regardless of offer, look at Levy when he didn't let Kane go to Man City. If Chelsea etc wanted Delap they should of recognised his talent like Mckenna did. If will take a huge offer to buy Delap as we have a sell on clause with City, and if a big club did put in a huge offer Man City will do what Villa did with Philogene, match the bid buy him back, sit him on bench and sell him for bigger profit in the next window. I genuinely this our recruitment has been spot on so far, including Muric, we didn't pay for Johnson. We have bought assets with talent and ambition, the aim is to become a staple in the Prem league, we aren't going to sell everyone and lose our manager, all on big money and long contracts because of one unexpected season Every player who has arrived knows where Ipswich Town aim to be and our mission statement. I think if we go down the only players to go will be the old boys, otherwise we would just be a yoyo club and have to be in relegation battle every other season If we go down, our squad with some more intelligent recruitment will bring us back up with ease I think and then we will have a squad with Prem experience, 2 seasons together and the finance to add to it OR if we stay up and I think we will, then we will gey the TV money again and can add even more quality to the squad, either way we are in a good place. I still think Southampton, Leicester and Wolves go down but I also think West Ham Everton, Spurs and Man Utd could be caught, if they don't get some top signings in they are really vulnerable. Just my opinion, I think Hernandez from Columbus Crew be awesome but our owners have a gem at Phoinex Rising also in Remi Carbel - check him out- is it a coincidence Ipswich Town follow him on Instagram, looks awesome

Hope some proper game time sees him develop into a word-beater, or at least allows him to find success at that level.

To be honest what I've seen of him he might even struggle at a high Championship level...but wish him all the best on his loan.

I don't think this deal depends on us getting a striker in cos we only play 1 up front we won't be in a hurry to sign a striker but I fear we need to as Hirst is so injury prone we can't not sign one
blues1 added 17:18 - Jan 21
To those suggesting Calllum Wilson? Sorry, he's injured as much as Hurst, so would make no sense. And Maja is now out injured, so,even if he was an option, he isn't now.

If Callum Wilson wasn't so injury prone, he'd be ideal, unfortunately he is the former, too much of a risk. I've seen Lath play once, not particularly impressed, though won't judge anyone solely on one game. Someone above mentioned Finn Azaz, seen him play as well, more impressed, attacking midfielder, just 24. It's still Ben Doak, a creative/attacking midfielder, and a decent striker who isn't purely a back up boy and drop off from what we already have, which would be pointless, that I'd like to see. Unfortunately a month late for Santa!

Callum Wilson is out until Feb so won't be him, slim pickings in Jan, Glen Kamara is on the horizon I think a great upgrade on Morsy, I wonder if Ethan Wheatley from Man Utd is available. Great finisher.
