Wednesday Loan Bid For Clarke
Tuesday, 28th Jan 2025 17:33

Sheffield Wednesday are reported to have firmed up their interest in Blues right-back Harry Clarke by making a loan bid for the 23-year-old.

The Owls have been known admirers of Clarke during this window and now, according to the Sheffield Star, have made a formal approach to Town regarding the one-time Arsenal academy player.

Clarke looks less likely to get regular football at Portman Road now the Blues have signed Ben Godfrey on loan from Atalanta and manager Kieran McKenna confirmed earlier in the month that a loan could be on the cards with the Owls among a number of interested Championship clubs.

“There's a possibility that Harry Clarke will go out on loan, a possibility at the moment,” McKenna said. “Me and Harry have had those conversations. He's an important player for us, a very good player.

“He had a big surgery [on both achilles tendons] and played through some injury at the back end of last season. He had big surgery in the summer, so he missed a few months of football.

“He has had some minutes now in the Premier League and some exposure but for his age as a young defender it's important to be getting minutes regularly for his progression and for his role at the club.

“So, if everything is in a good place in the squad over the next week or two from an availability point of view, there's a chance that Harry will go out on loan to get some regular playing time to keep pushing with his development.“

This is key... we kept Al-Hamadi on when we couldn't sign a 3rd No.9 in the summer; if we refuse the move, I think that will confirm the extent of Burns' injury...

Unless we want a stronger player to come in, perhaps?.

Whole hearted player who gives his all for us, but perhaps short of being Premier League quality (at the moment!) and hopefully will improve by playing regularly as he has time on his side

So now Al Hamadi is gone is McKenna content with just 2 number 9s on the books? Or are the recruitment team still trying to sign one?

Probably right for the club and player. Still short up top unless KMcK is going to play Encisco in a more forward role or Broadhead. If Whittaker has gone to Middlesbororough and they are short of cash it may open the door for Latte to move on.

Great move for Harry, more minutes, he will has big future at Town, only young, one of our own.
Keiron Trippier would be amazing replacement for Burns, think he be out for season now. Festy Obsle from Watford is good and an ROI international.
Troy Parrot would be good as he is abroad and on fire now or Callum Robinson from Cardiff, bang in form.
Exciting times!
Good luck if you go Harry!

Carberry. Do you ever listen to Mckennas interviews? He's clearly said they're still looking. But won't sign some1 unless they can improve the squad. If we don't manage to get anyone, we have other options who can play up front. Szmodics, Encisco, Broadhead, could all go up there. May have to telweak the delivery up to them tho.

blues1, you really are an aggressive little man, aren't you?
McKenna's response is the standard one for every manager quizzed about signings, he isn't going to share any detail or intentions - thought you might have known that.
What is clear is that unless our recruitment team pulls it's finger out we will be left with 2 number 9s and a forward line full of wingers.
By the way, don't bother replying.

We need to get a couple of players in imo but time is fast running out, maybe the current silence is a good sign.im a bit concered though. But if the players we need are not available or beyond us we will just have to hope we dont lose anyone and those we have can meet the challenge we have now. Certainly things are going to change in bottom 4/5 in next month the way fixture fall .Pray we scramble out of bottom 3 COYB

@blues1981
I agree, I said Whitaker last week but looks like Carrick is doing the same as Mckenna in get top Championship talent in and some sound loans, really going for it. Is what it is, I think Ipswich will pull a couple of good signings out of the hat.
I dont know why the sarcasm re naming some good players who we could possibly get, isn't that's what forum for?
I think a really shrewd move is Callum Robinson, confidence high, can play right across the front, scored 6 in 6 and most importantly he is A not expensive and B A Republic Of Ireland international so has friends here already so won't need to settle in but what do I know, all I do know is are season starts again now, we have 15 games left so still 45 points to play for with 7 at home and they are all winnable or draws, toughest one probably Arsenal but we beat Chelsea and Portman Road so you never know.
Last season 32 & 39 points was enough, if we could win 5 out of 7 at home and and 2 wins in the road with 2 draws we would be on 39 points and hopefully safe.
Next 2 games against Southampton and Spurs are huge.

When we look how many teams we were leading and them drew or lost if we can fix that we be okay and do what others do and just shut shop if we get in lead and not give away penalties and silly fouls we be okay.

Not popular I know but I think Muric should cone back in, Walton done well but stats and experience has to come into play but we see, I think both keepers have good and bad points really.

As others said I'd love to see a somewhat fixed starting 11 for rest of season, it can't be great rotating all the time.

Can't 2nd guess Mckenna but with squad at the mo I think a
4-3-1-3 is best formation.
Muric
Tumazabe
O'Shea
Greaves
Davis
Godfrey
Phillips
Enciso
Phillogene
Broadhead
Delap
Difficult really good squad when all fit.

Good move for Clarke. Needs minutes and he’ll improve playing regularly under Danny Rohl. Glad this is a loan as he’s still young and potentially has more to offer us in the future.

I do worry a bit about that right wing spot though. We’ve already got two premier league loans and how much money have we got left to spend? I can’t see us spending £20m or so on a RW and then spending even more bringing in a 3rd striker. We could also do with another cm as we look a bit light in that area.

@LeeJames.....Winning 5 out of 7 at home is a bit optimistic, considering we've only won once all season.
Really hope your right though.

@Gforce
Yes I totally agree but so many games we're tight that I think we can reverse results, take the lead, close the shop for me, might be boring but just need points, if we can stay up I think we will be able to establ8sh ourselves but if not I'm confident we will yo yo with ease.
Fingers crossed

Enciso cannot play up top. Enciso is only 170cm...he'd be eaten up and spit out in the premier league as a number 9. Same with Chaplin. Broady looked totally lost at sea when he had to play the 9 in a few matches last season. So I don't think these guys are serious options there.

Pettabelieveit added 07:48 - Jan 29
Not premier league quality, sadly.

And lost any respect for him after his homophobic slur during the parade in the park.

tractorboybig added 08:28 - Jan 29
why would any number 9 worth his salt want a loan to a relegation bound club?

I shall miss Harry's fist bumps when we win.
