Town Drawn Away at Exeter or Forest in FA Cup
Monday, 10th Feb 2025 19:18

Town will face Exeter City or Nottingham Forest away in round five of the FA Cup.

The Grecians host the Tricky Trees in their fourth round tie at St James Park on Tuesday evening (KO 8pm).

Exeter are 18th in League One, while Forest are third in the Premier League having beaten Town 1-0 in the league in November.

Town’s only FA Cup meeting with the Devon side was at Portman Road in the second round in December 1951 when the Blues won 4-0.

The Blues and Forest first faced one another in the competition in 1980/81 in the quarter-finals, the first tie at the City Ground ending 3-3 before Town won the replay at Portman Road 1-0.

They’ve met twice since then in third round ties at the City Ground in 1989 and 1997, the Midlanders winning both games 3-0.

The Blues, who were the last team out of the hat, secured their place in the last 16 for the first time since 2007 by beating Championship Coventry City 4-1 at the CBS Arena on Saturday.

Town were most recently in the fifth round in February 2007 when they were beaten 1-0 at Watford in controversial circumstances, midfielder George O’Callaghan having been red-carded just before half-time, a dismissal which was subsequently overturned.

Fifth round ties will take place over the weekend of Saturday 1st March.

4. Manchester United v Fulham
5. Newcastle United v Brighton & Hove Albion
6. AFC Bournemouth v Wolverhampton Wanderers

Forrest are a good side but generally not free scoring so we could easily take them to extra time and penalties. It all depends on what sort of side they put out and if they really want it badly enough unlike Liverpool if not Exeter could easily turn them over.

In defence of Blueboy- there are a lot of people on forums who can no longer speak their minds for fear of upsetting others and getting marked down. But those same people are more than happy to boo the team and single out individuals inside the stadium. If I had 1K in my pocket and went into the bookies to place a bet on whether we will or won't stay up,(unfortunately) I know which way I'd be betting. And this from someone who turned down the nomination of 'Supporter of the year' in successive seasons !! Supporting the team isn't based on whether we can be unnaturally happy and positive all the time, but whether we can be constructively critical, perceptive and honest. Delusion affects 99.9% of all football fans. It makes for very unbalanced and biased opinions.

In 1978 we finished 18th in the league, just 3 points above the drop. The cup run went well that season.

Blueboy1981. Yes, of course there's a realistic chance we will go down. That's been the case ever since we got promoted. But to say it's over now, when only 3 points from safety, is just typical of the negative comments you post every time you come on here. If I remember right, u were one of those saying promotion was over after the 0-0 draw at Bristol rovers in lge1. Similar after a few games without a win, last season if I'm not mistaken. As for saying to Londontractorboy, that if we go down he won't be anywhere to seen? One thing is for sure, if we should stay up, you certainly won't be anywhere near this site. After all, you might have to post something positive for once.

Chepstowblue. Ur right, that fans should be able to post constructive negative comments, as well as positive comments. Thing with Blueboy is, he only ever posts negative ones. And that's why he gets the criticism off many others.

Linkboy13 - Just having a bit of fun with you. I understand perfectly what 'generally'means which is why I omitted it from my quote.

Hey I think this is a great draw-we avoided the big guns and it is a winnable game either way if we really want it (KMC?)----i WAS there also Cressi and a few weeks later went to Volendam,Arnies home town and there was a huge photo of his winning goal behind the bar at his brother Gerries pub----crikey I felt so proud!!

Assuming Forest go through, it was quite a close game against them back in November, just that penalty between us. We had quite a few opportunities in the first half which came to nothing (story of our season!). But there’s every chance we could beat them or knock them out in pens, especially if they make a few changes.

Not the best draw but I’m not writing us off just yet. Plus I’m desperate to see Town play at the new Wembley!

Apologies Bluebore, I accidentality up voted you. not to worry, I doubt that will be happening again.

I for one would rather play the Prem club to be honest than face a tricky away tie down in the south west after they've knocked Forest out.
Either way, KM will balance the aspirations in this competition with that of still very possible (Bluebore) Miraculous premier league survival and I trust him to do what is right over all.

Tough season but in the middle of heady happy days for our club. COYB

Dissboyitfc …… haven’t seen much from those pre/season predictors of a Top 6 Prem’ finish lately - I cannot recall you disagreeing with that at the time.
Of course you are right, it will NOW be an incredible achievement to stay in the Prem’ this season.
How many years did it take us to get back again ?? - Relegation could well be a disaster for the Owners, and Club.
That’s how seriously important results are from NOW until May, because all in all thus far it’s been a disappointing season - finishing 17th was not expecting too much from the onset !!
Fire away Kids with your down marks - as usual !!
