Hirst and Taylor Win Caps
Sunday, 23rd Mar 2025 22:23

George Hirst and Jack Taylor won international caps as substitutes this evening but with their teams having very different results.

Taylor came on in the 82nd minute to win his third cap as the Republic of Ireland beat Bulgaria 2-1 in Dublin to complete a 4-2 aggregate victory and secure their UEFA Nations League B status. Teammate Dara O’Shea remained on the bench throughout.

Hirst was introduced from the bench five minutes after half-time as Scotland were beaten 3-0 at Hampden Park by Greece having led 1-0 from the first leg in Piraeus.

The Town striker, winning his second cap, was booked for speaking out of turn to the referee.

The Scots, for whom Blues keeper Cieran Slicker was on the bench, drop into Nations League B as a result of the 3-1 aggregate defeat.

AN embarrassing Sh1t show from the Jocks and Hirst must be thinking 'what have I done?' already. A pathetic midfield that Greece ran through in front of an error ridden defence. Scottish hope Gilmour didn't look like he could break wind, let alone break the lines.
They will have to get their Maradona shirts out again for the World Cup next year.

Really poor game, feel for Scots only have a couple of decent players compared to years gone by, surely they must have some decent players up there.
Thought Steve Clarke was a bit harsh comparing Lyndon Dykes to George Hirst at first and didn't realise he was in league 1 with Birmingham now so that's a fair assessment because Dykes goalscoring and assists is much higher when he was at QPR and has been with Scotland a while.
At least Hirst has 2 Scotland caps and a couple goals in Prem, hopefully get a few more, we gonna need him, hope Delap and the others gets through tonight okay too, Omari safe as was sent off.
