McKenna: Much Appreciated and Not Quickly Forgotten Friday, 18th Apr 2025 16:43
Town manager Kieran McKenna says the backing his team continues to receive from fans is something which is “much appreciated and not quickly forgotten”.
When some squads might be in disarray after a tough season and with relegation a near certainty - with mathematical confirmation perhaps coming as soon as Sunday’s home game against Arsenal - the mood among the players has remained upbeat and united.
And the Town support has remained firming behind the players, as was illustrated at the final whistle at Chelsea last Sunday.
“That’s fantastic and, as I’ve said before, it’s much appreciated and not quickly forgotten,” McKenna said.
“But also, to a certain extent, you can’t say you expect it because you can’t take anything for granted by any means.
“But the players being positive and looking forward, they shouldn’t be anything else. Of course, we’re disappointed, but to say ‘clubs in this position’, clubs in this position are teams who have had two promotions in two years from the middle of League One to the Premier League. There is no comparison in modern football times, and say modern in terms of the last few years and the scale that the Premier League’s gone to.
“We have to keep earning that support, we have to earn it in the same way that we did against Chelsea last weekend with absolute full commitment and pride in the performance.
“And if we do that, those involved will keep their heads high and the supporters, I believe, will stay behind the team.
“We don’t take it for granted, we want to keep earning it each and every day, each and every weekend and we hope to do that again this weekend.”

Some of you so bewildered, we hardly conceeded any with Muic in goal, does nobody look at stats. Take away the the 3 drubbing vs WH, New and City and muric only conceeded 21goals in 17 games Palmer and Walton 33 goals in 13 games since Jan we only in April Shocking. Aside Newcastle thrashing at home Muric only conceeded 9 goals in 8 games.
We are nowhere near an established Prem team we are back in Championship, and without a clear out will be for a long time. Time for a fresh start. What better way to say thanks than Wesy Ham game and move on
Go away Churchman, don't be so insulting just because my opinion doesn't match yours. Blinkers on, we are a laughing stock fielding players signed in league 1 not a couple a whole line up.
Re Muric check the stats, you only think Palmer is good because he is way better than Walton, just look at scores when Muric in, 1-1, 1-0, 0-0 etc aside 3, 4 goal drubbings he was immense.
Look at scores since Jan 6 goals, 4 goals on average 3 a game that is pathetic.

Leejames99 eh? I think he just likes the attention and stirs up controversy to get it. Sad really. Amongst so much dross was the reference to “League One players”. There a few left who PLAYED in League One, but a lot of them came from the Championship remember. There Club is on a forward projectory. OK we have step backward coming but l think the PL was probably a step too far too soon. Off the pitch, much to look forward too. New £30 million training ground facilities going ahead despite relegation. New stand to replace the Cobbold when the development of the area kicks off.We have owners that have ambition and the money to back it. How lucky we are! Think l will consugn Leejames99 to history, it’s getting such a bore..
Yeah I'm right, we will fly back straight back up no problem, Mckenna at the helm and Hirsty up top now playing in the Championship trying to beat the drop.
I dont rate Mckenna at Prem level or the peanut players I've been a Town fan since 84 through ups and downs but live in the real world some of you believe anything Mckenna says, only picked up 7 points at home all season, 7 points and your all fine with that that and believe we have to go back to go forward, lot of money to fork out for a quick Jolly in the Prem.
We have signed quality Championship players but they all played out of position.
I'm a realist and if anyone thinks we going to just breeze past Southampton and Leicester plus whoever doesn't go up from top 6 and Promoted from league 1 then you got perspective all wrong. Most of you don't know we got the most points and conceeded the least goals with Muric in, most of you just want accept Davis has been behind nearly every goal conceeded this year. And now you think George Hirst is the man to lead the crusade back to the Prem with Captain Morsy and his trust band of soldiers. More like the grand old Duke of York, when they were up they were up but when they were down we will be very much down about 10th or 11th down! Unless Ashton demands Mckenna plays the players he signed, it's a business not Roy of the rovers . You all still blaming the 'too soon" and fine margins waffle.
Awful subs, couldn't see out games, players out of position and out of their league and down we go.
@Churchman. Sorry mistake to mark you down, should read this on my phone, fingers too big! 100% agree with you. There's a number of fans at home games who have appeared and expected miracles in the Prem. Where were they in MM days on cold wet Tuesdays? Sorry again Churchmans
Lee James, rather a lot to say for themselves Wonder why so much effort to just post negativity. Your blood pressure must go through the roof when everyone marks you down. About the only thing I can remotely agree with is I also thought Muric was singled out for OTT criticism. Using the imbeciles arguments for us to have been competitive this season w would probably have had to spend around 3 times the amount to get Premier quality players from abroad. We have the highest number of home grown players in the 25 man squad of all the teams, Liverpool have played with none in their team at times. It's imperative we get Status 1 for our development team then we can attract overseas players to develop as home grown if they are with us for 3 years.
1 match missed all season, home and away. The support has been excellent all season and we're a credit to ourselves. We're regularly complimented by home fans for our noise levels, which says everything you need to know.
The lads have played their hearts out - that's all we could have asked for this season - and if we're not good enough this season then I'm sure we will be soon. #coyb
If Muric is so immense then surely someone elsewhere will recognise that and sign him. Only he wasn’t immense was he, and nobody is going to spend money on him. I supported him right until the Bournemouth game, but that was the final straw. I guess in your warped head he was justified coming out for that ball.
@virginblue and why did he come out because of Davis! Don't need someone to sign him, excellent keeper, Walton will go Exeter or Colchester, go and warm a bench at Plymouth or something. Nothing wrong with my mind. My opinion based on fact is we conceeded way less goals and picked up most of our points with Muric and if it wasn't for him we would be rock bottom after a draw and a loss to Saints.
Right now it's make or break, giving Mckenna a free pass to see how is 'plan' and journey pan out is one thing, retaining a squad of peanuts players who got us relegated is not. If it wasn't for Delap and Szmodicks, Phillogene goals we been relegated games ago. They had their fun and experience in prem for 2 promotions now we have 1 chance to get back up and all eyes are on Mckenna. In any other job doing a poor job and your gone not a 6 mill salary and pat on back
From Ipswichtophoenix Not bothered about downmarket it's a forum, if fans think not evolving the team or management is just a springboard for success they sadly mistaken, we need a huge clear out in Summer and a proper assault on Championship, will have 1 chance at it. Walton, Burns, Morsy, Luongo, Chaplin, Taylor, Hirst, Delap, Davis all to go get 8 new faces in early. Opening day line up should be Palmer/Muric Tunazabe O'Shea Greaves Townsend Johnson Cajuste/New Mid Szmodicks J Clarke Hutchinson New striker
Subs Muric/Palmer H Clarke Woolfenden Humphries Ogbene Phillogene Broadhead New striker New LB
Please explain how a ball from the Bournemouth left back, that went inside our right back, which Muric then decided to run straight past, was anything to do with Leif Davis?
I ain’t wasting anymore time on you. Either you’re a wind up merchant, a massive turd or more likely both.
Pretty simple, I do agree Muric didn't need to cone for ball in first goal but look who scored and where from, it could of been 1 of 2 Bournemouth players who scored, Davis just watching the game and the second goal how on earth can that be Muric fault? They switched it right past Davis again with his back to play, Muric got the first but defenders not tracking back.
This is my point exactly, do some fans just watch tge game live and then say what they see? So anything fired at keeper has to be saved or its keepers fault. Muric is still 15th in most saves this season and only played half of it, and by goals conceeded now its pretty obvious. This is not all on Davis, its Mckenna tells him to forget defending and stick to the process and we conceeded so many late goals because our bench is awful but also the tinkerman changed back 4 every single week. So I ask again whose fault we have bad signings (we dont) who picks team etc etc it's Mckenna. Look at positional play.
Leejames99 I've been a town fan for 50+ years and still travel 360 miles round trip to home games with my grandson who loves the blues as do most of us. I've never read such a bunch of drivel written by someone who claims to be a blue. If your that fed up.with the football go get another sport to follow like tiddly winks. Read the banner at the back of the north stand quoting the great Sir Bobby. That sums up a true supporter which you are clearly not.
