Humphreys Wycombe Young Player of the Year
Wednesday, 23rd Apr 2025 09:44

On-loan Blues midfielder Cameron Humphreys has been named Wycombe Wanderers’ Young Player of the Year.

Humphreys, 21, joined the Chairboys in August and has gone on to make 41 starts and six sub appearances in all competitions, scoring seven times and picking up six assists.

He was handed his award by the Official Wycombe Wanderers Supporters Association ahead of Monday’s disappointing 4-0 home defeat by Charlton.

As a result of that loss, the Buckinghamshire side are third in League One, two points behind second-placed Wrexham with two matches to play.

Humphreys quickly impressed the Adams Park faithful after making his move, earning the nickname ‘The Suffolk Messi’.

The Colchester-born schemer, who has played a more advanced role for Wycombe than he has done for Town, is contracted to the Blues until the summer of 2026 with the club having an option for a further season.

Let's hope he's playing for us next season and that he continues to impress.

Hopefully a big part of our team next season.

Improving all the time. I saw him in a couple of games this season and was really playing with a lot of confidence. Definitely a cut above league one , will come on for playing in championship.

Had been following him a lot of the season but in the last few weeks, honestly forgot we had him. Could be a huge asset next season, that's really exciting.

We definitely need to bolster central midfield for next season and Humphrey's could well become a key squad player for us.

Yes, im in agreement with the guys above, time for this lad to have a season in our Championship squad. With Massimo OOC, Sam reaching his mid 30s and Kalvin touted to return to Leeds, Cam should return.
If we can just manage to keep Jens and add Downes who is rumoured to be a persistent target that MF 5 of Morsy, Taylor Canuste Downs and Humphreys would be very very strong indeed.

He’s got to be in contention next season to start games. 7 goals, 6 assists is very good for your first full season. Well done Cameron.

Downes? Seriously? He is trouble wherever he goes. No thank you. Let him suffer with Southampton.
It is true, though, that the team needs more strength in midfield to be able to hold onto games and not concede so often after being ahead.
This season has been characterised by losing so many points from winning positions. A more canny Ipswich might have finished mid-table but for being overrun in midfield.

Definitely worth giving a chance next season. But the reality is that we need to strengthen midfield to have a chance of promotion and certainly to compete in the PL again. I think it's the main area that we have looked lightweight and under prepared. We need a really fit, athletic and strong CM to play alongside Morsy next season, perhaps with CH as back up/ coming off the bench to unlock defences. For Wycombe he's been playing as a 10, but I don't see him competing for that spot with Szmodics, Chaplin, Hutchinson etc.

I've bumped into Cam a couple of times and he is a really nice lad. Kieran Dyer once said that Cam Humphreys was the best midfielder at the club.
He is certainly gifted and deserves the 'Suffolk Messi' nickname - good on him.
I think (a bit like Jack Clark and Omari) that he just needs to toughen up a bit in the gym and then he will tick all the boxes.

Agree Bringmeakuqi cept l think we badly need to replace Morsy. That’s why Phillips was brought in although it was a gamble that hasn’t worked. We need a younger central midfielder with more technical ability than Morsy to bed in over a season. Every team wants this type of player but we have been fishing in a smaller pool due to a lack of an overseas scouting network. Will be made up if we can keep Cajuste.

BringmeaKuqi. To play alongside Morsy? While he may be ok for another season in thd championship, je has actually been one of the biggest problems for us this season. Slows the game down way too much. Simply hasn't been up to the pl. And no, im not criticising him, hes been great for us. Just believe it was a step too far for him. Phillips and Cajuste has been our far better pairing, but unfortunately Phillips has had injury issues. Agree that we need some1 athletic beside him, if he's gonna play regularly next season. Ideally we can find a way of keeping Cajuste but if not def need to sign some1 else in that position.

Unfortunately, zero possibility of Cajuste staying for the Championship with us. He could be picked up by one of the promoted teams or I wouldn’t be surprised if Everton or West Ham go for him.

Definitely need legs for next season and someone who isn’t afraid to try and spray the ball about. That has been a major issue for us this season. We cannot counter attack teams a pace as we don’t have someone capable of pinging the ball about.

Ipswich Town will pay €1.5m for the one-season loan and retain an option to buy at the end of the year for €12m.

However, this becomes an obligation if they manage to stay in the Premier League and avoid relegation.
So we have an option to buy and at 12 million we would be mad not too.
If Morsy doesn't go to Saudi he would be okay in squad but I think we need to bring in a new midfield partnership that can continue into the Prem if promoted, if Cajuste stays I'd love to see Finn Azaz don't know if Boro would sell

I've always liked Humphreys as a play and only seems to be getting better and better. He is going to be in for a big push in the squad next season and if we can get Cajuste in, imagine them 2 in the middle

The lad has talent and some serious potential. This year has done him a world of good. Town getting relegated could actually be a fantastic opportunity for him to play next year. Onwards and upwards.

Oh, and can we keep well clear of Downes. I don't think he's what we need in the dressing room or around the club (again) personally.

Speaking of loanees, does anyone know how Elkan Baggott has been getting on? He's certainly the right size for a centre-back and I thought he did pretty well in the few games he played for us?

The_Prof - my stepfather is a Blackpool fan and says he's been excellent for them this season, so another encouraging option for us. It's great that we have some really good talent coming through. And I agree with the above comments, if we can keep hold of Cajuste then our midfield and attacking options look great: Cajuste, Humphries, Taylor, Morsy, Hutchinson, Clarke, Szmodics, Ogbene, Philogene, Burns, Broadhead, Chaplin. But I also agree we need a replacement for Morsy given his age and his performances this season. He'll be good again in the CH, but we need to build for a return to the PL.

Jon_talbot, blues1, yeah I reckon we need 1 more season from Morsy. Championship is his level, he is important for experience and culture which we need with a young and new squad. Under no illusion he cannot make it in the prem, and possibly might be limited for another champ season. But he was very good last season - the pace is slower. So, Morsy plus an athletic midfielder, CH off the bench, then look to upgrade on Morsy next season with someone who plays alongside our new CM this season. I think signing two new CMs this season is high risk in an already much changed squad. I also think Cajuste might be unlikely...
