Town to Face Auxerre in Pre-Season
Tuesday, 17th Jun 2025 16:00

Town will travel to face French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre at Stade Abbé-Deschamps in a friendly on Saturday 2nd August (KO 6pm local time, 5pm UK).

The Blues had previously announced that they would be playing a second overseas friendly in addition to the game against Blau-Weiß Linz following their Austrian training camp.

The game against Auxerre, who finished 11th in Ligue 1 last season, is likely to be Town’s final friendly before the 2024/25 campaign gets under way the following weekend.

The Blues faced French opposition in pre-season last summer when they beat OGC Nice 1-0 at Portman Road, Axel Tuanzebe netting the goal.

Town won’t have time to host a Portman Road friendly this year with the annual scrape and seed of the pitch being carried out either side of the Ed Sheeran concerts.

A full list of the friendlies announced so far can be found here.

200km SE of Paris 2 hours by train
An opportunity for a romantic trip? wowing the better half with your haggling skills when negotiating for a model Eiffel Tower, Quick Look at the PSG ground and then slip off to Auxerre for the afternoon whilst she peruses a museum ?
Not been rudely treated by The French for a while - F2ck knows what their passport control queue is like post Brexit.

MMT having done Le Shuttle, the French are like UK passport/customs; understaffed and grumpy.good luck persuading the missus. Unfortunately we're over there a few weeks too early.

A good test prior to the season proper. Let’s hope the new signings - to which we need at least eight - are well bedded in by then. More importantly, hopefully the long term injured are ready to go by then!

Will this game be played over 90 minutes?

I only ask because of previous disappointment of fans who have travelled abroad to watch matches that haven't been full matches.

@northstandveteran I would have thought this one would be the full length as its probably the final friendly before the new season starts. Whether the main team plays the full 90 minutes though will be interesting to see. Probs swap the team around the 60-70 minute mark

Personally chuffed. Followed Auxerre as a lad, they had a great team. Mexes and Boumsong pairing at the back, midfield with Tainio Faye Kapo Fadiga and Cisse up top. Fabian Cool in goal and a manager who’d been there for decades. A proper football club.

Don't pay any regard to Friendlies remember last year we had a couple of good victories against highly regarded European teams against mainly their second or third teams and looked what happened after that. Definitely won't be going to any more friendlies at Portman road that's for the bobble hat and scarf brigade if you know what i mean.

Linkboy13 - i'm sure that you'll be missed.... particularly as no home friendlies are planned.
