Town Linked With US International Striker Agyemang
Wednesday, 25th Jun 2025 10:21

Town are reportedly showing interest in US international striker Patrick Agyemang, who is currently with MLS side Charlotte FC.

According to Give Me Sport, the Blues and Derby County are both working on deals to sign the 24-year-old along with Belgian side Genk also said to be keen, Luton Town having made an unsuccessful bid in January.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano had previously reported that the Rams are closing in on a deal, but it’s believed no agreement has yet been reached with either club or player over a move with Charlotte under no pressure to sell.

Hartford-born Agyemang is 6ft 4in tall and has played all his club football in the US, with the Eastern Connecticut Warriors and Rhode Island Rams in the college system, then Western Mass Pioneers, Charlotte and Crown Legacy (loan) in the senior game.

This season, Agyemang, who is currently with the US squad at the Gold Cup, has bagged eight goals and two assists with Charlotte in 1,362 minutes in all competitions.

For the US national team, he has netted five times in nine matches having made his debut in January.

A new number nine is among Town’s priorities this summer with Liam Delap having joined Chelsea earlier this month for £30 million and with the Blues wanting competition for George Hirst.

Since I live in the states, I've watched him numerous times. He is a good option to have alongside Hirst. He is strong, good in the air and has decent pace. His interplay skills and his hold up ability needs work but he does find the net. His record with Charlotte isn't a major concern as the standard of players around him isn't brilliant. With better service and a better standard of player around him I feel he could do well.

Seems to have a good goals per game ratio, albeit not too sure about the general level, over in the states.
However if we did sign this guy and hopefully still go in for Guiu from Chelsea, along with Hirst, that would be a very strong front three to choose from.

Confident that a fit Smozdicz in the Championship will get a hatful. For me it’s the central/defensive midfield that needed addressing last season, and still does. Our transfer policy seems to be entirely focussed on ‘future value’ rather than plugging some fairly obvious gaps…

@grumpyoldman and @BlueandTruesince82 completely agree, ITS STILL JUNE and as with every transfer window with us and every team, there will always be numerous links announced early on in the window. I know the Delap sale was done early but that's because Chelsea wanted him for the Club Cup and at least we got that sale in before the end of the PSR, helps the team know what money they can work with in this season. I completely trust Ashton, McKenna and co and im sure they have been working on deals already especially as they already know we need couple of strikers and a couple of CMs minimum and come July the new players will start being announced (also falls in the next PSR). It wouldn't surprise me if one or two get announced on July 1st if we managed to get some people whose contracts have expired

I love that we ended up in League 1 because too many fans supported the management / board.
Yeah, it’s bang on them that the club was run abysmally. Comedy gold.
Too many amateur chief execs on here who think they know how to run a football club. Here’s some enlightenment for them. You don’t, and given that most of them don’t have the intelligence to understand the challenges that PSR presents, you really shouldn’t offer an “opinion”. Oh, and by the way, not every footballer harbours a massive ambition to play for ITFC, so stop assuming that players should be falling over themselves to come here.

Grumpy old man, have you considered the 30mil for Delap?

How many of us were overwhelmed when Delap signed? If the price is right might be worth a punt!

Gforce. Don't disagree about the standard in the USA, but it hasn't stopped Clint Dempsey for instance being successful over here. And think the level over there is probably better than it was then.

Dissboyitfc. The 30m for delap, (we only getting 28m of that), will go onto this year's accounts, thus cutting the deficit for the last year, leaving us more wiggle room on the ffp for the next year.

There’s evidence on this thread alone as to why our Club is unlikely to see it’s past success and achievements ever again.
We dragged our feet last pre-season and we look like doing so again.
We need replacement signings for our exited players, other teams in opposition have, and are doing what we are yet to do.
Why are we never the Early Bird that Catches the Worm ? - I guess it leads us into the same excuses as previously, of players needing time to gel and settle in, should we have an indifferent start to the season.
So many fans these days just accept whatever will be, will be - it doesn’t have to always be that way.
Our Squad with the clock fast ticking down, is far inferior to what we finished last season with - and we all know how that ended.
I guess we’ll have whatever is left - and therein another ready made excuse !

@BlueandTruesince82 before you know it its August, sign them all at the last minute and then the excuses will start coming in "need time to gel", "getting up to speed", "not fully fit yet, no pre-season" et al we've all heard it before

Dissboy yes I did take that into consideration, one thing it’s £20 upfront, the rest in instalments. But I think those running the finances know more about PSR than us lowly supporters!
