Muric 'Closing in On Turkish Move'
Sunday, 3rd Aug 2025 23:44

Town keeper Aro Muric is closing in on a move to Çaykur Rizespor, according to various reports in Turkey.

A deal which would see Muric return to the Turkish Süper Lig, where he previously had a spell on loan with Adana Demirspor while a Manchester City player, is said to be largely done and could be finalised soon.

The 26-year-old endured a tough first season at Portman Road having signed from Burnley for £8 million plus £2 million in add-ons in July last year and his exit this summer has been widely anticipated with clubs in Italy and France having previously been linked.

Muric’s 2024/25 was ended prematurely by a shoulder injury which required surgery and the Kosovo international hadn’t been involved in pre-season until he came on as a half-time sub during last Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Charlton at Colchester.

The Swiss-born keeper wasn’t with the squad at Auxerre on Saturday with Alex Palmer starting and Christian Walton and David Button on the bench.

“He’s training well and he’s done well in the minutes that he’s had. He did well when he came on against Charlton,” manager Kieran McKenna said of Muric.

“Alex and Christian have done the whole pre-season and are a little bit ahead of him fitness-wise and match fitness-wise, but he’s training well and getting stronger day by day, so he’s ready and fit should we need him and should the opportunities arise.”

Rize-based Çaykur Rizespor finished ninth in Süper Lig last season.

Palmer made the biggest goalkeeping error last year vs Wolves.
I hope we sign a new keeper- Hladky ?

Inevitable after the way our fans turned on him. Statistically the best keeper with save ration but howlers thrown in, this is best for all parties.Personally I would be neither surprised nor disappointed to see walton move too and bring another keeper in. Palmer = decent, but we can do better. Get oursleves into the top of this league and attract a bigger name in January?

Philogene potentially out for 6 months

Brentford away was the game after which McKenna should have pulled the plug, but he didn't and he cost us even more points. I have this vision of the team getting into a huddle before a home game and a seemingly unaware Muric, in front of the dug outs, being helped to put his gloves on. That said it all.

Wage off the books if this goes through, seen and heard so much rubbish over the past few weeks cannot wait for the transfer window to shut

He will not have fond memories of Ipswich after the toxic way a minority of supporters treated him. He could be an exceptional goalkeeper given time. Good luck Muric.

I think maybe it's his off field activities that has led to this move.good luck to him and I wonder what we got as a fee fir him. Nowhere near what we paid I'll bet.

People saying best keeper Jesus a absolute disaster no communication with defence and absolutely error prone a terrible miss judgment in bringing him to the club.

Best for everyone, wish him the best, not his fault, purely poor recruitment at our end.

He didn’t get us relegated, our general recruitment policies did.

I hope he builds his confidence up…, guessing the complete lack of financial details means we’re liking writing off most or all of the fee, and probably paying off some of his contract.

It will have cost a lot more than the £8-10 million to get him out of the building.

I was expecting a loan with us paying some of his wages.

Those saying he’s brilliant .., you must be furious with McKenna and Ashton, letting such a talent leave for next to nothing…, that, or contrary equals attention.

I don't wish him anything bad but I will be very happy if he moves on.
Can you imagine if he's back in the team and makes just ONE error leading to a goal?
And for me, that's the issue.
He needs to go and I hope he does, mainly for his own mental health and confidence.

Is someone going to be accountable for potentially squandering so many millions on certain signings as it could well be that this will not be the last occasion where the club will have to take a big hit.

This is for the best all round. I've heard many rumours that he lives locally and is very unhappy in Suffolk. Sorry but I don't feel comfortable with him in goal, too many errors and a lack of communication with the team. Let him go and we'll all move on. No need for bitter remarks from anyone, us or him.

Let’s face it, after making so many very costly mistakes last season, moving on is the best for Muric and the club.
After spending 8m plus 2m add on, I’d very much like to know how much we are getting for him.
Whatever, the exit revolving door turns again, whilst the entry door hasn’t moved for far too long.

Real shame that it didn't work out, as I'm convinced he is still our best keeper! Also a plague on those that booed him when he came on at Colchester ..pity we can't transfer them to Turkey!!

Darkhorse28 Change the record. Spouting the same old bs. When will u get it, that Ashton and Mckenna do not recruit the players. The only part they play, is Mckenna says what type of player he wants, the recruitment team search for the players , within the criteria requested. Ashton then discusses personal terms etc. They do NOT actually recruit the players. Tell u what, you think you could do better? Offer ur services to Ashton, and when u find out just how hard it can be to recruit players, maybe you'll stop posting bs on here.

Blues1 you are saying the McKenna and Ashton do play a part in the transfers? What are you on?

So McKenna did not say specifically he wanted Hutchinson signed before?

Of course these two have the upmost say. What complete nonsense you have just written.

Right move for both parties...supposedly on a huge weekly wage so that money needs to be freed up!

How my doubts about him when he first came here...

Imabeliever No, its not cost cutting. It's the fact we have 3 first team keepers. So 1 of them was always gonna go. Would be impossible to keep all 3 of them happy, with one ofcthem not being involved on match day, at all.

blues1 - it is partly cost cutting, after last season I very much doubt he'd be a regular starter over Palmer and on what he is earning!

It hasn't worked out for him at Ipswich but he wasn't the only bad signing we made last season but goalkeeper's mistakes are crucial so they tend to get lots more abuse. Hope it works out for him at his next club.

His distribution is heads and shoulders above our other keepers, was stand out in the Championship, technically the best keeper we have, it only we could eradicate the crazy moments he seemed to have every game in the championship… that said not sure any player wants to stay at a club their own fans boo them, absolutely disgraceful tuesday.

Great shot stopper but zero communication with the players in front of him.
