Muric 'Closing in On Turkish Move'
Sunday, 3rd Aug 2025 23:44

Town keeper Aro Muric is closing in on a move to Çaykur Rizespor, according to various reports in Turkey.

A deal which would see Muric return to the Turkish Süper Lig, where he previously had a spell on loan with Adana Demirspor while a Manchester City player, is said to be largely done and could be finalised soon.

The 26-year-old endured a tough first season at Portman Road having signed from Burnley for £8 million plus £2 million in add-ons in July last year and his exit this summer has been widely anticipated with clubs in Italy and France having previously been linked.

Muric’s 2024/25 was ended prematurely by a shoulder injury which required surgery and the Kosovo international hadn’t been involved in pre-season until he came on as a half-time sub during last Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Charlton at Colchester.

The Swiss-born keeper wasn’t with the squad at Auxerre on Saturday with Alex Palmer starting and Christian Walton and David Button on the bench.

“He’s training well and he’s done well in the minutes that he’s had. He did well when he came on against Charlton,” manager Kieran McKenna said of Muric.

“Alex and Christian have done the whole pre-season and are a little bit ahead of him fitness-wise and match fitness-wise, but he’s training well and getting stronger day by day, so he’s ready and fit should we need him and should the opportunities arise.”

Rize-based Çaykur Rizespor finished ninth in Süper Lig last season.

Feel a bit for Muric. I still believe he is a good keeper, it just hasn’t worked out for him here. Hope he does well in his next move.

I have been a True Blue for 60 plus years, and unfortunately time doesn't always mean progress, the Club has changed, fans / followers have changed in their vindictiveness and attitude towards players, etc; - Muric is a classic example, he has been ridiculed by vindictive so called fans of ITFC since his arrival - for no good reason.
I therefore hope he moves on and enjoys his football wherever he goes. He at least deserves to do that. Fans attitude towards him has been deplorable - this is not the ITFC fans of previous and possibly only really successful times - he would once have been encouraged and to settle into the Club.
Time moves on and things do change - but not always for the better, by far.
ITFC is a typical example - along with ‘some’ of it’s fans !!!
Good Luck Muric to you and your family.

….. tractor lady - you prove my point !
This is not the Ipswich Town I once knew, and loved - an element of ‘yob’ followers have infiltrated what we stood proud of for so long.

blues1, you come out with some absolute rubbish and so much vitriol reserved for people with an opinion. Today you have plumbed new depths.
McKenna and Ashton don't get involved with recruitment - that's the most ridiculous thing you have come out with. Ask Bristol City fans what they think of that statement. Do you think the all controlling COO and Chairman doesn't oversee incomings? And do you think McKenna says I want a defensive midfielder and waits to see who comes through the door on Monday?
Beggars belief.

Sometimes we fans forget our players are human and subject to human frailty. Aro was certainly not all bad and made some great saves but didn't seem to fit the team well, there could be many reasons for this, we will probably never know for sure. Like a few others I can't see it's viable for him to stay now a section of fans have turned against him and booing him was disgusting.

Aro was not responsible for our relegation, poor purchases and injuries, but also on occasions just not being good enough, we got promoted too rapidly but didn't have the squad for the Prem!

Take a deep breath, we go again Friday night, we have a good squad for the Championship and I'm sure there will be a couple additions and departures in the next few weeks.

If Aro goes I wish the big fella well.

Promising keeper,I think he just had a few personal problems last year that was taking his mind away at crucial times. Never really played well enough to get the fans backing and after some awful blinders lost the fans altogether. Good luck in your move away.

Agree a move even if just a loan will restore his confidence. It is clear that we have many armchair fans who comment on here as Muric actually played very well in some games especially away from home where the day trippers are absent. In his defence he made some terrible errors but he also had a nervous defence in front of him. One hopes that our new signing will put pressure on Palmer for the number one spot. Palmer is a good keeper but his distribution needs improvement. Walton for me is not a strong contender for the number one jersey and will always be backup.
I wish Muric well. I’m sure he’ll be relieved to avoid some of those booing so called fans.
