Town Eyeing Leicester Forward McAteer Thursday, 21st Aug 2025 11:22 Town are eyeing Leicester City winger Kasey McAteer.
We understand the 23-year-old is among a number of right-sided forwards on the Blues’ list of potential recruits as they look to replace Omari Hutchinson, who left to join Nottingham Forest for £37.5 million last weekend.
The Daily Telegraph, is reporting that a bid has been made and the Blues are confident of making the signing, however, that is understood to overstate the position as it stands with Town also looking at other options.
On Friday, it was reported that Town had made a €20 million (£17.2 million) offer to Danish club FC Nordsjælland for 19-year-old Norwegian international forward Sindre Walle Egeli.
Northampton-born McAteer joined Leicester aged eight and made his first senior appearance in the Premier League in a 4-0 victory over Newcastle in December 2021.
Having had spells on loan with Forest Green Rovers, with whom he won the 2021/22 League Two title, and AFC Wimbledon, the right-sided forward has gone on to make a total of 27 starts and 29 sub appearances for the Foxes, scoring eight goals, including his side’s second in the 2-0 win against the Blues at the King Power Stadium in May. He was a member of the squad which pipped Town to the 2023/24 Championship title.
McAteer has won six full Republic of Ireland caps, scoring one international goal.

I've felt so indifferent to all of the recent links. In the space of a few months we've become a very ordinary championship side with very little influence or pulling power.

The better half of the Promotion squad has gone , most wanting to leave , and mainly replaced by one year loans with little or no Premier League experience . One penalty and one own goal in the 2 games so far with hardly a shot on target , now just 6 wins out of last 46 games since Aug 25. We are going backwards if this signing is the best we can do.

Very surprised considering we are favourites to win the league and sitting on a pile of money that it appears we are struggling to attract anyone of decent quality.

some of our fans will be over the moon that we are liked with him but I'm not and I read alot ain't either because he's no better than what we already have the idea of a transfer window is to improve on what we have unfortunately we haven't

Why all the negativity? he played the same amount of games in the prem last season as broadhead while also missing games through injury and scored against us. he's got plenty of years in him and looks like a great backup (can't see him being a starter). for the people asking why we need another winger, we have just lost Broadhead and Omari, and with burns out for a few months still, gives us 3 actual wingers. Yes he might not be our first choice, but I don't think a lot of you understand that buying a player isn't just making a bid and boom he's yours, you've got to consider if the club actually wants to let that player go, whether the player wants to leave, and if they do whether they want to come here. Theres still over a week to go which is plenty of time, and deadline day is always the most active day. people just need to understand that teams don't always get who they want, just look at Newcastle who have missed out on over 10 players this window because either the player has chosen elsewhere or the club selling have accepted a bid from a different club. Also, yes we have made a lot of money so far on sales, plus the parachute payments, but we had over £100m net spend last year which we need to cover for FFP. I do agree with us needing another striker and also think we need another left back, but we still have time, and think part of the reason we haven't made loads of signings is because we want to sign the right player, not just anyone

I can only hope that we'll do some business in the closing days of the window when other clubs' deals are done resulting in better quality players becoming available.

So Ashton and the club can’t get deals sealed so we’re now picking up scraps from Leicester. Such a poor window so far

Just to add to what I said, a lot of transfers act like dominoes, once a deal is done, it frees up another player to leave and so on

I’ll reserve judgement on this window until it closes but at the moment it looks pretty uninspiring. Leaving necessary business this late is asking for trouble and we must be on plan D by now!

Calm down! It’s just another news report, based on very little. The negativity on here is, in terms of transfer speculation, reaching peak ME levels. Wait until players have signed before casting judgement.

Going backwards aren’t we ? Brett and his pals are taking the dosh. We are picking up the scraps. Cr@p transfer window. No one we have signed looks like a PL player either.

I've no doubt McKenna and Ashton will be most grateful for the comments left on here by those who absolutely know what's best for the future development of Ipswich Town Football Club.

6 full Ireland caps and having scored to and you glass half empty guys are saying we are scraping the bottom of the barrel. Who do you think ITFC should be trying to recruit? WOW this place cease to amaze me at times

Is it a coincidence but is there an embargo currently on spending a substantial amount of money. Yes there has been talk of big money purchasers but nothing has happened. In addition the players that have arrived have virtually all been loans.Be interesting to see how things develop time is running out.

I remain hopeful that half the links we are being associated with are rubbish. However, it is becoming harder to be hopeful in the absence of progress and communication from the club. I feel for McK (assuming he isn't behind the gutting of the team and worryingly ppor player targeting).

Oh dear… Having had to bin the initial two pages of A4 with our top to bottom signing preferences, Ashton and McKenna are now half way down page 3. Hmm? Who was the top scorer in the National League last season?
