Blues Linked With Wales International James
Wednesday, 27th Aug 2025 13:36

Town are reported to be rivalling Wrexham for ex-Birmingham City midfielder Jordan James, who is currently with Rennes in France.

L’Equipe revealed the Red Dragons were keen on the 21-year-old Wales international, who is available for sale, last week when Serie A Parma were linked with a loan move.

According to journalist Alan Nixon, the Blues have contacted Rennes, from whom they signed Azor Matusiwa earlier in the summer, but with the Welsh side currently having made a larger offer.

The player is said to be willing to speak to both clubs with discussions planned prior to the weekend.

James came through the academy ranks at Birmingham and went on to make 54 starts and 50 sub appearances, scoring 10 goals, before moving to Rennes for £4 million last summer.

The Hereford-born schemer has won 20 full caps with Wales having made his debut in 2023.

Elsewhere, former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill is considering a £100,000-a-week deal with Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab, according to Sky Sports.

Brownhill is reported to have held discussions with two Premier League clubs, while Town, Leicester and Southampton are claimed to have shown interest in the 29-year-old, although early summer links with the one-time Preston man were dismissed.

Apart from being a decent player, who should improve un der McKenna (natch/yawn) he has something about him and if our team is missing something it is a bit of s##t Housery, esp in the middle. Could do worse.....though we could have done so much better, but the Hackney dream seems very much over sadly.

I'd love to know what goes through the head of some people on here, everyone saying we need another cm and not happy that we haven't been linked with anyone for a while, gets linked with someone and we get "yawn". What are you expecting?? Just no pleasing some people. Looks a very good youngster to have as backup to cajuste and matusiwa

Bored rigid with all this. We have signed one player in the last 2 weeks.

Only interested once they have signed the contract. Speculation is boring and often leads to a lot of disappointed fans.

Dissboyitfc, can't disagree with those sentiments at all. However I'd like to add that if, as they say, no ( transfer ) news is good news, then we are in for one hell of a next 5 days!

This transfer window reminds me of the Evans years the dark days only selling players and trying to get cheap bargains wheres the ambition gone if we don't get 3 or 4 quality players in before window closes no prem football next season.

So people want the club to explain why reported deals don’t happen. Maybe because there was no deal done. Maybe because the demands were too high. Negotiations are confidential. Time some of our fans on here grew up.

He went to Rennes for about £4.5 million and it hasn't worked out, so should be available for a decent price. This season he will also still be considered as u 21 as he was at 1st January (that is if we buy him and not loan him). The reality is as with Macateer we are operating a model of improving players over a couple of years and selling them on for healthy profit, so hopefully we can double their price in a couple of seasons. I don't have a problem with this and by all accounts he is a decent player at this level with potential to improve but so is Humphreys and Jack Taylor who both would benefit if playing in a 3 man midfield. With the presumption that Cajuste and Matisuwa are likely to be first choice and MC K only wanting to play 4-2-3-1 it is difficult (without tempting the fate of injuries) to see James, Humphreys or Taylor getting much game time. In respect of James he will need game time to develop in line with the clubs objectives.

Have to admit though I am very disappointed that we didn't go for Billing who went back to Denmark for a modest £5 million which surely must have been in Town's reach. At 6ft 6 inch he would have given us much needed extra physicality and goals and can double up as a number 10 as well as a number 8.

James, Egeli and Ivanovic from Millwall (who also qualifies as an under 21 registered player) and a young loan left back from a premier squad should comfortably conclude our business.

Wish I could go away from TWTD for a couple of days and come back and see some progress in the transfer department. Trouble is, I can't resist checking in daily (often more than once) in the hope of some developments.
