Szmodics Out of Irish Squad Due to Injury Sunday, 7th Sep 2025 11:42 Blues forward Sammie Szmodics has pulled out of the Republic of Ireland squad ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier in Armenia due to injury.
Szmodics won his 11th full cap in last night’s 2-2 home draw with Hungary before being substituted in the 78th minute in what looked a tactical switch.
The 29-year-old wrote on Twitter that he hoped the unspecified issue wouldn’t prove to be too serious.
Szmodics’s Town teammates Dara O’Shea, Kasey McAteer, Jack Taylor and Chieo Ogbene, who is on loan at Sheffield United for the season, remain in the squad.

blueboy1981, I think egg is good for your hair at least, not sure about the face though. Seriously though, I can't argue about the last sentence in your post. As regards SS, it doesn't sound terminal.

Getting an injury playing for Ireland is hardly Town’s fault but if it gives Blueboy and Darkhorse a chance to have a dig they go in feet first to fuel their own sad agenda. Hopefully Szmodics will soon be available.

A couple of wins and it will all be fine

Just a point - is it logical to buy a player who recently has achieved a great haul of goals as he may never do this again. Conversly of course he may continue in this vein of form but it may be more unlikely than likely - we shall no doubt soon see the results this season. Another factor is that any new manager may use the player in a different role to the one he is used to. I rest my case.

How long is it going to be before fans accept that what is done is done,so move on, and get behind the manager, his staff and the team.

If I was a betting man……I would think that Sammie has exaggerated or engineered the situation to go back and prepare for Friday night where he will start. I’m not, so I won’t loose any money!

I have a bad back as well ,so no chance of me replacing him for Ireland, this is bad news for the men in green..

No matter what happens with Sammy lets hope KM and especially the fans give the new players time to settle and bed into the team. Personally I have written this season off as a transition season, so not expecting a bounce back to the Prem. We were all sad to see such personalities depart during the summer but you can only move forward in life, so lets get behind the lads now.

We do have some right drama queens as fans, don't we? Drama, drama, drama! Like they thrive on it and need it to stay relevant in todays drama saturated world. Too many conspiracy theorists, too many experts, too many insiders, too many who have their opinions that no matter anyone says will never change, too many pessimists, too many emotionally connected to the players like they're blood relatives. Can we just hold off and see how the season goes and keep the drama to the TV for now?

Although im a big fan of McKenna's no manager is perfect. The claim that McKenna improves players i think is a bit off the mark Muric, Jack Clarke, Smzodics and Philogene who rarely beats his man because of the fear of being tackled he's a bit like Michael Jackson in football boots. I am a bit worried about Acpom after scoring bucket loads of goals for Middlesborough will he come under the McKenna curse. The question has to be asked why sign players if you are not going to play them in the position they are happiest. Despite all this criticism i am still confident McKenna will turn it around.

Agree Linkboy ,playing players out of position does seem to be a bit of a trait, seems he wants them all to be versatile and cover other positions ,it may sometimes work out, but when it dosnt it can be a problem and a costly one.Play players in their natural position and get the best out of them .
