Birmingham City left-back Martin Grainger has emerged as one of the players Joe Royle recently targeted as a loan signing.

The 31-year-old former Colchester United player, now on loan at Coventry City, was the subject of an enquiry three weeks ago as cover at left-back.

However, when right-back Fabian Wilnis picked up a shoulder injury, ironically at Coventry, Town turned their attention towards cover for the Dutchman instead.

Oleg Luzhny from Wolves and Robbie Stockdale from Middlesbrough were amongst the players about whom the Blues subsequently enquired.
