Rotherham keeper Mike Pollitt is reported to be on Joe Royle's list of possible replacements for Kelvin Davis. However, newly-promoted Wigan have confirmed that they are already in talks with the 33-year-old, while Leeds are also interested.

Pollitt has a year left on his contract with the Millers but is expected to leave Millmoor this summer with the relegated Millers keen to save on wages and achieve a fee for the former Manchester United trainee.

Rotherham turned down a bid of £200,000 from Nottingham Forest in March and will probably want something approaching £500,000 for his services.

Wigan will obviously be the frontrunners for his signature, however, last season's Rotherham Player of the Year is unlikely to get too much first team football at the JJB Stadium and the Farnworth-born stopper may prefer a switch to a club where he is more likely to play on a more regular basis.

Town boss Joe Royle signed Pollitt during his time as Oldham manager, taking the then youngster on a month's loan in October 1990, although Pollitt failed to make a senior appearance while with the Latics.

After leaving Manchester United Pollitt moved on to Bury, Lincoln, Darlington and Notts County before a second loan spell at a by now Joe Royle-less Oldham.

Short-term spells at Gillingham, Brentford and Sunderland followed before the Black Cats signed the 6ft 4in keeper as full-time cover for the last couple of months of the 1997/98.

Two spells as Rotherham's established number one were split by a year at Chesterfield but it has been in his second 192-match stay with the Millers that he established himself as one of the best keepers in the Championship.
