Sunday's tabloids claim that Town made a loan bid for Chelsea striker Carlton Cole. A number of papers also report that Charlton's Jonatan Johansson is on boss Joe Royle's wish-list.

Chelsea are said to have turned down Town's request to take England U21 international Cole to Portman Road as a temporary strike partner for Sam Parkin, who also learnt his trade at Stamford Bridge.

Royle watched Johansson in action for Charlton against Hartlepool last Tuesday but was reported in a newspaper to have denied any interest in the Finnish international.

Johansson, currently out of favour at the Valley, had a trial with the Blues before he joined Scottish giants Rangers from Estonia side Flora Tallinn in 1997.
