Burley Calls for Stewart Call-up

Town manager George Burley has called for Marcus Stewart to be picked for England. Stewart has scored goals galore this season with Saturday's typical effort at Morecambe his fourteenth of the season.

His boss said: "Marcus should be in the frame for England. He wouldn't let his country down at the moment. I think players should be picked for their club or country on form, and even at the age of 28 I would give him a chance."

Burley continued: "He is one of the country's leading scorers, his form is tremendous and if he can continue like that, why shouldn't he get a chance with England? He may not be quick, but he has a tremendous football brain like Teddy Sheringham. He has the habit of scoring goals which you can't teach."

Stewart, a one-time target of tonight's opponents Birmingham City, said: "It is very nice of the manager to say that. I don't really think about it because at 28 and not having been picked before, I don't think I have much chance."

Town fans will not agree with his pessimistic view of his chances.
