Striker Dean Bowditch says he hopes he can return to his early form under new manager Jim Magilton. Bowditch's career has drifted in recent years after making a dramatic impact having first been introduced as a sub in the 2-0 derby victory over Norwich City in March 2003, setting up both goals.

Capped by England at various youth levels, Bowditch opened his goals account the following season in the Carling Cup against Kidderminster, netting his first three league goals the following March in a Sky game against Watford.

The last couple of seasons have seen the 20-year-old, contracted to the Blues until 2008, make less of an impact and loan spells at Burnley and Wycombe followed.

Bowditch told the club site that the change at the top could work in his favour: "It was a clean slate for everyone when Jim Magilton took over. He came to me and told me to wipe everything out of my head and get back to the form I showed when I first came into the team.

"I think I have been doing that in training and also in pre-season. Hopefully now I can take that into the new campaign.

"My confidence has slipped a little over the last couple of seasons. I wasn't happy with myself, with the way I was playing.

"The change of management has probably come at a good time for me. It has allowed me to make a new start.

"There's a really positive vibe at the club at the moment with Jim and Bryan Klug and that can only be a good thing.

"We underachieved last season. Now we have to push for the play-offs at the minimum."
