More on Verheyen Mon 02nd Oct 2000 16:47
A Belgium based TWTD Message Board regular has provided more info from the Belgian press on Verheyen's possible (now seeming ever more probable) move to Town. The player is quoted in Het Eerste Nieuws today on the subject of the move and he seems more than interested: "I can earn 3 times as much playing for Ipswich, I'd be an idiot if I wasn't interested". I don't want to play for Arsenal or Chelsea, Ipswich is already big enough for me!"
New Offer for Verheyer Mon 02nd Oct 2000 15:55
The Club Brugge official website is reporting that Town have made an offer of 120 million Belgian francs for Gert Verheyen, which converts as roughly £1,782,807.22. The Belgian site suggests that Town will triple the 30-year-old's wages and that he spoke to his club about the move when he heard of Town's interest. More as it happens...
Brown Off Mon 02nd Oct 2000 15:03
Wayne Brown seems to be in the verge of leaving Town with reports today that both Wimbledon and Stockport want to take the centre-half on loan with a view to a permanent transfer.
Another Move for Verheyen Mon 02nd Oct 2000 11:26
With the weekend's offer to Club Brugge of around the £1 million mark turned down by the Belgians Town may look to put in an improved offer. Brugge commercial manager, Antoine Vanhove, said of the original Town offer: "Ipswich's offer is less than £1.75 million and I have told them that the answer is no. It is possible that they will offer more but we don't want to release Verheyen. We have already sold Fadiga and Deflandre and we don't want to lose our best players. We have our own ambitions." So it looks like £1.7 million will be the cost of getting the player, who scored two goals at the weekend as Brugge won 5-2 against KV Mechelen. Verheyen himself seems keen on Town's wooings: "Ipswich Town's interest is serious. I don't just want to leave it. I will talk to Vanhove about the situation in the next few days."
Academy Do Well Sun 01st Oct 2000 12:43
Town's Academy teams had a good visit to Fulham with the U19s drawing 2-2 while the U17s truly went to Town winning 6-1. Scorer of both goals for the U19s was Nabil Abidallah in a game the Blues would have won, but for bad defending. The U17s goals came from a Matthew Robinson hat-trick, Ian Westlake, Steve Burton and Robert Dickinson.
Verheyen bid snubbed Sat 30th Sep 2000 23:40
FC Brugge have rejected Town's reported £1 million bid for Gert Verheyen, as the figure was considered a joke by the Belgian club. Ipswich are likely to have to at least double that bid if we are to sign the midfielder, but that figure should be within Town's budget.
Everton 0 - 3 Ipswich Town Sat 30th Sep 2000 18:00
Town marched to perhaps their most impressive result of the season so far as they beat Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. Despite the very poor nature of the opposition, Town were very impressive, defending when it was required, passing well and taking chances when they were there.
Titus Offered Huge Deal Fri 29th Sep 2000 14:27
Town's Man of the Season so far Titus Bramble has been offered a massive new contract by Town. Bramble, who still has two years to run on his current deal, has sat down with Town and his agent, the notorious Jonathan Barnett, to discuss the new five-year deal. And it seems negotiations are going well with Titus likely to be putting his signature to the agreement sooner rather than later. Town will be anxious to tie the young star down for as long as possible given his superb start to the season. Manager George Burley said: "We’re working on it and hope for a successful conclusion."
Verheyen is the Man! Fri 29th Sep 2000 11:55
The identity of Town's Belgian target now appears to be Gert Verheyen the 30-year-old team-mate of Sven Vermant, the player linked with Town earlier today. Also an attacking midfielder Verheyen was linked with Town two weeks ago, but the story was denied by George Burley. Either the Town manager has changed his mind or someone misunderstood him but the deal for the £1.5 million rated player seems to be on as long as Brugge are happy with the price offered by the Blues. Verheyen's previous clubs include Hoogstraten VV, Lierse and Anderlecht.
Town Squad for Everton Fri 29th Sep 2000 11:28
Town have announced their squad for tomorrow's game at Everton. No surprises really, Mike Salmon continues to deputise for the injured Keith Branagan and Tuesday's injured players, Marcus Stewart and Mark Venus are back in the squad as expected. Amir Karic will look to make his League debut after coming on as a sub in the Millwall game.
