The irony that we're not playing either of them in that position at the moment.
It's looking a bit muddled. For the first time in ashton/mckenna's time.

Will or should we sack him? No chance. Paying him off to change manager would be complete madness.
However, if he doesn't want to be here (if he feels he's done all he can), then yes, maybe it's time to take the compensation on offer and move on. |

I think it's more likely we'll see the opposite and go and do something weird like beat arsenal. We've got a mix of young guys and guys who were with us in league 1. They all just want to play in the prem. I'd expect them all to continue to be full of beans for the last few games. The only one i'd worry about might be delap who knows he's off and might only put in 90% effort but i'm not sure he's the type to do that. |

Nathan Broadhead is still our best player.
Regarding the OP - yes and no. Townsend did well in a team battling against better teams. If we want to finish top of the league next season we'll need someone like leif to provide 18 assists and a constant attacking threat. Great cutback for delap today but i'm not sure townsend could provide that. Maybe if we swap it round and push our right back very high instead? |

It's funny how subjective football can be. I thought he was quite good. It will be an interesting battle between him and harry to nail down the right back spot in the championship next season, IF we go back to a more attacking right back instead of it being a donacien/tuanzebe type. My heart wants harry to get it but i have a feeling we'll see johnson's quality come through. |

100%. Dropping greaves would be a big thing, but to stand any chance of staying up i think even mckenna now knows that we have to. I agree i'm sure greaves will be good next year as long as his confidence hasn't taken a kicking this season (and the problem is, dropping him now won't help his confidence). If you said to me keep burgess and sell greaves for what we paid for him, i'd be tempted to take that though. |

Yesterday was a hard watch, and that was after i'd had a lovely weekend camping with mates and surfing in the sunshine. Must be tough to keep singing so loudly at the tail end of winter having paid a fortune and travelled for hours to watch the same thing happen over and over. Fair play. Best fans in the league at the moment. Next season will be a big test. Need to keep it up in the championship while getting sucked into a scrap away to rotherham on a tuesday night. |

Here's a mad idea by BondiBlue 6 Feb 6:28We've lost burns and ogbene and have no high right winger who's right-footed.
What if we do the exact opposite and play with a high left-footed left winger. Leif becomes wes burns. Then you'd have to do the opposite to what we currently do with full backs. The right-sided full back needs to overlap and the left needs to stay home like tuanzebe does now. Johnson right back, greaves left back, which gives us a good excuse to play cam burgess next to o'shea again.
Genius.

He's been with us for years and this is the first season we've had more than an average number of injuries (although that's a feeling rather than fact - i haven't researched it). I'd suggest we instead blame the intensity of games against super-fit athletes and the level of training required to get players fit enough to compete. |

I know greaves is obviously going to be a good player but at the moment burgess is better at a couple of really important things: winning the ball in the air and passing the ball. You're right - he should have won that ball and he also couldn't find a blue shirt with a pass when spurs put him under pressure, which we knew they'd do.
We've been a bit naive this season in a number of ways, completely understandably given the lack of experience of everyone at the club at the top level, but not recognising our best centre-back pairing when it's right in front of our noses has been a rare mckenna mistake. |

A few people saying it's been poor. I wouldn't say poor but it perhaps wasn't the strategy that gave us the best chance of staying in the league this season. If everyone's keen to stick together in the championship next season, that's a heck of a team, and the younger ones will go for more than we bought them for if we sell them at the right time. One season of pain for long-term gain. Could prove to be a great strategy in two years time if we come back up and stay up. |
