Norwood 2020 / Kuqi 2004
at 01:41 24 Aug 2020

Does this Norwood conversation remind anyone of the conversation we were having about whether or not to let Shefki kuqi leave in the build up to the 04-05 season? Both had mixed seasons the year before, both seen as a bit donkey-ish, both outshone by someone younger and quicker? Let’s hope Norwood does a shefki and goes and smashes in 20+ goals. He looks capable.

Lambert was not having Phil's questions this morning
at 12:19 14 Feb 2020

If I was Phil I might have pressed him on this after he dismissed the perfectly valid questions about squad quality and wage bill. So he’s saying it’s the players’s fault then?

Have any of the local media asked him about Donacien and earl as wing backs on Tuesday? Surely there was a better alternative - Dobra for one of the centre halves and go 433?

Must win game against weaker opposition. 5 centre backs in the pitch. Strange decision. Hope it works.

Donacien

Agree with the OP about how it should have been him coming on for nsiala. He’s a centre-half turned full back so surely would be comfortable on one side of a back three. We obviously had a problem with their wingers last night and donacien, as a good one-on-one defender, surely would have stood a better chance when they were running at him.

I love how you’ve phrased this. Time for a change because there are too many changes. Classic.

We can win this

Our bench looks more up for the fight than the Norwich players. Avoid any (more) red cards and it’s ours for the taking. COYB

This. I stopped for a girl (one in particular, not so I would do better with them in general). We ended up getting married. It’s a great way to show that you’re mature and ready to get serious if that’s what you’re looking for.

he’s on the bench today,...

It’s taken me years to figure it out because he has occasionally shown he can do all of the things a left back needs to.

He’s just a bit thick. There’s no other explanation for it.

The hoofing straight up in the air i’m trying to understand (Skuse does it too) as something that mick taught - stick it high enough in the air and it gives our guy more time to get under it and therefore flick it on or bring it down. Callum Connolly was the worst at it and I doubt he learned that at Everton.

2-0 is a dangerous scoreline.

Unfortunately this is the problem with just watching highlights. Nsiala and Chalobah (first half especially) were probably our two best players with ward and Jackson not far behind.

Birmingham are a much better team than their league position suggests. Good point away from home. Well done town.

What crisis?

The way we responded to getting battered in the first 5 minutes was a joy to behold. Relieved all that pressure by getting hold of the ball and passing it. Excellent.

He did take them to Portugal. Problem is he then went and signed an entire new first team squad after they got back.

Someone wrote a paper on when to sack a manager
at 22:02 23 Sep 2018

“So the optimal strategy for a club would seem to be to allow a manager a honeymoon period of 8 games, and then sack him if his weighted average performance with a smoothing value of 0.121 (putting 47% of the weight on the last five games) falls below 0.74 points per game.
If a club follows this strategy it can expect to obtain 56.81 points per season. It can expect to employ 5.7 managers on average over the ten seasons, and the average quality of those managers will be 3/5ths of the way between good and excellent. To put this into perspective, 56.81 points would have secured a finishing position of 10th, 8th, 8th, 6th, 8th and 8th in the six seasons so far of a 20-club Premiership.”

Was hurst interviewed for the job?
at 12:12 19 Sep 2018

Fair enough. But Evans had already decided he wanted him ahead of the other candidates before interviewing him though, hadn't he? Or was it that Ross and Lampard told us early on that they weren't interested and wouldn't wait around until after the process was concluded? I just find it odd that you'd make up your mind on someone after you've interviewed everyone else but before you'd interviewed him.

I accept that my original question was ridiculous. Of course he was interviewed.
