Danny Baker sacked from 5 Live
at 17:36 9 May 2019

I have to agree. I like Baker as a broadcaster, and so am desperate to find a way to defend him. But I can't.

From what I know of him, I don't believe he is racist, and don't believe he would have intentionally posted a racist post. However, in his position (and being an intelligent guy) he is at best a complete idiot for not pausing to think about whether the depiction of a baby monkey might be the wrong thing to do - it's the type of image that you would surely recheck and satisfy yourselves several times that it is not likely to cause offence to anyone.

Then, on at least that 2nd check, it would surely click and you would do the right thing. This is a guy from the BBC, which puts even more onus on him to think several times before posting anything. The best I can say for him is that he is stupid.

I need somewhere to share this because I am struggling
at 13:53 29 Apr 2019

I know there is little you can do at present to lessen the pain. However, as a guy who is facing a similar experience to your mate, I can tell you that your friendship will have been a great comfort and vital distraction for him. You clearly thought the world of him, and your presence and friendship will have massively helped him through some tough times (and it is likely you did not realise this). So, you are clearly anything but selfish, and I hope you start to come to terms with everything without ever forgetting what a top friend he was.

Put to one side government strategy, and instead look at how the media deliberately refer to 'the enemy within' and 'traitors of the people' to see how easy it is to mobilise a mass of people to a common cause, a common 'enemy', parroting slogans that mean nothing, shouting phrases like 'fake news' without ever having to justify or prove their point.

It's all around. If people can scream Nazi, fake news, Communist, Traitor without anyone calling them out, then this country will go the way of the USA - where the scientific truth can be dismissed with a simple unchallenged tweet. If people are ready to blame 'people not like us' for the troubles in the world, then the government have a vested interest in not disputing that. Listen to the debate, and how easy it is to say things that a few years ago would have been rightly challenged. Brexit (forgetting the rights and wrongs of it) has brought out the worst of Britain and I'm not sure how it can now be reversed.

But the point is, people get worked up over something that is extremely rare and is very unlikely to really affect their everyday life.

When you say we are becoming blind to the crap we have to deal with, what is actually happening is that most people are just getting on with their lives and hardly giving terrorism a second thought as it doesn't affect them.

And there are lots of valid reasons why banks don't simply hand over 10k, and hardly any of those are due to terrorism

Indeed. It's all about quality. We need a few players in, but IF we had one proven goalscorer, we would not be in the position we're in. That was basically the difference today. Not saying we wouldn't struggle, but we would be a few points better off

And you've massively misread me. Of all the emotions I feel about this mess, smugness is certainly not one them. On the other hand, Rees-Mogg, Johnson and Farage (along with everyone who says 'you lost, get over it'), that's premier league smug!

This, what you are seeing now, is what you voted for. No way am I taking the blame for that. Face up to what you've done

Why don't you just try to debate? In this debate, it's a reasonable question to ask you what you voted for. If the answer is a hard Brexit, fair enough, but I think it's reasonable to assume that many who voted Brexit expected our PM to negotiate a deal.

So if the potential outcome is now a hard exit, would you not think that it's reasonable to go back to the voters to confirm if that is really what they wanted? I would have thought that was something everyone would want to check - not just remainers. IF the majority of the country do not want a hard Brexit, it's supremely democratic to give them the opportunity to say so. Why would you not want that to happen?

Why does every post you ever make include you denying you're a racist? Really strange insecurity.

Your Brexit's going well, isn't it? Many sensible people told you it would be a disaster, you chose to ignore them, and now it is a disaster. Now stop continuing to blame the people who told you it would be a disaster. Direct your blame at those who told you it would be a piece of cake - they've had you for a right mug and you should be very angry

We’re down
at 22:02 23 Nov 2018

Well, we were better than Reading last week, and we gave the potential league champions a good game tonight. Doesn't mean we will stay up, but also means you are just wrong to say nothing suggests survival is realistic.

When you're bottom of the league, it is a huge ask to get anything from games like tonight's, and yet we were a couple of inches from getting a 2-2 draw. The next match will be a much better indicator, but if all the fans are like you and just accept we're going down, I'm sure you will be proved right. Luckily most fans tonight seem much more prepared to stick with the team

Agreeing With LeagueOne
at 19:10 10 Nov 2018

There was nothing about today's performance that said relegation. If you didn't know our position, you would have thought we were in and around the playoffs. Therefore, if we can continue with the quality we showed today, we will comfortably recover those 5 points. I agree we still need a bit more quality in front of goal, but if you can't feel optimistic after that performance, I don't know why you bother.

Sorry to be positive - I know it's not acceptable for some on here

It's not as though he's 'Norwich' through and through. He just happened to manage them, without having any great long standing connection to them or ever showing us any disrespect. So let's not let the Norwich connection be the reason for rejecting him before he's even been announced - whether he's the right man technically for the job is another question, but the way things are at the moment, I'll be happy if he can just keep us up.

Whoever it is, let's back him or we'll keep coming back to this position

Every post you have ever made on this site is basically you protesting that you are not a racist. You deny it many more times than you are ever accused of it. Seems to be a bit of a pattern. I don't ever feel the need to deny I'm racist - why do you?
