Decent Enough
at 18:32 20 Sep 2025

I know a few have said not good enough etc but I actually thought we were playing ok. We look much better in possession and worked the ball into wide areas really well.

Midfield balance is getting better with every game and Hirst should probably put us one nil up in the first half. I have to say that I have real concerns over Greaves. Not just for the sending off but gave the ball straight to them in the first half which lead to them having an attack. He looks bereft of confidence.

Town Fans...wow! Unbelievable noise all game. As for the ref, why did he wait so long? About ten minutes before he stopped it Jack Clarke physically stopped in his tracks and it was obvious the ball wasn't moving properly.

United were a strange side. Decent enough in our half but very poor in their own. I'd imagine they must have feared the worst when we made changes. The strength of our bench was pretty crazy and something the rest of the division will be envious of.

My old man said at half time that we could do with someone like Magic to keep the ball moving and Nunez couldn't have done a better job with that. Then Clarke put in a great shift and Egeli showed signs of what he is about.

He seems to have gone under the radar a bit but I thought Szmodics was superb. That is probably the sharpest I've seen him for us and his movement off the ball was electric. The only downside is that he didn't tuck his one on one away.

Mr Mckenna has some very tough decisions on his hands. We seemed back to the good old days of 'Game Changers' coming on and impressing.

When the Levy news breaks
at 13:00 5 Sep 2025

The Beeb reckon he was sacked as part of restructuring the board in hopes of becoming more competitive. I'd be interested to know how much of a say he had in the funds being available for players considering his involvement with Enic.

I appreciate that he has done incredible work from a business perspective, but was the point of that not to then allow Tottenham to invest the kinds of funds that the top 4 have? Add in a pretty poor record of taking previously successful managers on that have crashed and burned and things don't really add up.

Bit like Dara to be honest. I wonder if he thought he would rather settle than end up going to the Prem and relegated once more.

Times change…
at 16:32 1 Sep 2025

They do indeed. However, off of the back of last season it was vital to get off to a good start to give everyone confidence and turn the negativity on its head. That hasn't happened and we have now moved on a majority of the people that got us promoted last time round.

In my opinion, all that has done is add massive pressure to MA and KM to get things going, very, very quickly. Football is not a patient sport anymore and sentiment soon gets lost (particularly when those players leave)

Controversial twist..

I'm pretty certain Mcateer's numbers were similar to Omari the season we got promoted and people were happy for us to spend 20 million quid on him!

Uppie'd this purely for the Marco Holster reference.

Exactly.

Leif, Mass, Burgess all other examples of players that excelled with his guidance.

The Leicester fans seem in disbelief that we would want him.

It was put in place to try and protect clubs but all it really has achieved is over inflated transfer fees!

I don’t like our formation and never did.
at 15:27 19 Aug 2025

Probably a bridge to cross should we go up again but for now, it will be more than sufficient. I felt that we controlled most of the game on Sunday against one of our promotion rivals and pretty much nullified Birmingham's threat as well.

We will have 'easier' games to come where possession will be even more dominant and different challenges with breaking teams down.

Should we go up, I will definitely be interested to see our approach, although it will probably be a different type of player we target as opposed to big system changes.

Less tippy tappy football?
at 12:43 18 Aug 2025

I did my 'Introduction to Coaching' course with the FA recently and it was interesting that most of the drills they recommended are focused on scoring as many goals as possible, as opposed to possession for the sake of it football.

It was interesting as I took it as a bit of a dig towards the Guardiola influence, despite how successful he has been! Maybe the FA feel as though football has become boring.

I completely agree about the defending. Greaves has a brain fart and then Taylor has to do better to stop the cross in my opinion. Palmer is just rooted to the spot though. He half flapped at one in the second half too!

Keepers should command the 6 yard box. He should be coming and claiming a cross from 4 yards out, or at least putting the attacker under pressure. It isn't the first time he has looked unconvincing at crosses.

So kicking the ball straight to the Birmingham player last week and not coming for the cross yesterday hasn't cost us then? If that was Muric he would be getting pelters for it!

Agreed. It was very noticable that he kept playing it to the wrong foot of the receiving player as well which was causing us issues. Then add in the fact that he does not look comfortable coming for crosses. Before the goal, there was another occasion when the ball came into the six yard box that he didnt come for.

How will we do breaking teams down this year?
at 09:06 18 Aug 2025

An Omari replacement will help with that. We need someone that can get at people and make things happen.

Even yesterday though, we did have enough half chances to win the game comforably. Hirst in the first half when he could have squared it to Clarke, Szmodics post, Chaplin and Taylor headers etc.

McKenna's insistence on playing the same formation
at 09:03 18 Aug 2025

It might be 'setup' that way but its an incredibly fluid and ever changing system that we play.

The tactics are not the issue at present, it is having the personnel in the door to be able to deliver it and then the right 'game changers' to make the relevant adjustments. We have two weeks to give him the tools he needs.
