Cheers, although don't suppose you know of any in the Meadowhall area as well?

Pub in Sheffield to watch us play Hull?
at 14:01 21 Apr 2024

Going to be in Sheffield next weekend and I know we have 1 or 2 Sheffield residents among us, so I was wondering if there was a particular pub where the game would be shown (and that has decent beer!)

Thanks in advance.

Is there a specific match we should be celebrating today?
at 18:33 19 Apr 2024

I met my wife 17 years ago today, coincidentally through match.com.

Not sure that meets all of your criteria though.

1 point separating 5 teams at the bottom of the table? Yikes.

Bottled beer trialling
at 21:35 11 Apr 2024

That cellar sounds ideal.

Back when I drank real ale I used to keep my bottles in the garage, although it could get pretty warm in there in the summer so that wasn't always ideal.

When we moved house 5 years ago our new house had a built-in fridge, so our old fridge became a dedicated beer fridge - I try to make sure it stays well stocked!

Tonight in the Championship - what we thinking? what we hoping?
at 19:30 9 Apr 2024

Really wouldn't surprise me if the scum lose at the Wendies, after the lord mayor's show and all that.

Anything other than a win for Leicester and Leeds would be massive, can't see it though.

Bottled beer trialling
at 18:01 9 Apr 2024

Bottled beer needs to be kept somewhere dark (if it's not in the fridge) as too much light can impact the flavour.

Not a problem for cans obviously, although both suffer if not kept at the correct/consistent temperature.

Bottled beer trialling

I'm a big fan of all things beer related - have journeyed through lager as a yoof, then through real ale and now a big craft beer drinker in my 40s, but while some people try to criticise one or the other, there is a place for all of them IMO.

Some sound recommendations on this thread & from what you've said I'd suggest craft beer probably isn't for you, but one thing I would recommend is keeping a record of what you like and dislike if you're "rediscovering" beer. There are lots of apps out there for this, but UnTappd is by far the best and every beer worldwide is listed on there. Far easier than keeping a written list as I found out around 8 years ago!

30 years today since Kurt Cobain died
at 13:54 5 Apr 2024

Yeah you're right about his overdose in Italy.

Me and my sister had tickets to see them at Brixton Academy on 9th-ish April, so we figured that would get rearranged after his OD, but I remember my mum telling me to put the radio on first thing in the morning (16 year old me would've otherwise laid in bed till at least midday!) & I just couldn't believe it.

I was lucky enough to see pretty much every other band from that era, but Nirvana was the one I was looking forward to the most.

Someone posted recently about Soundgarden's Superunknown album being 30 years old & I've listened to that a number of times lately, so will definitely have to put some Nirvana on my playlist later on.

30 years. Wow, where has the time gone?

We should just use Hermann's old song, simple & it would work a treat.

Anyone feel like feeling old?

Yeah thinking about it, it would've been around that time. I had tickets to see Nirvana in Brixton in April 1994 but obviously that never happened. Never got to see them live but saw pretty much every other band from that era.

Almost 30 years since Kurt died too, where the hell has that time gone?!

I saw that gig as well, although the crowd didn't seem that into it for some reason.

Pretty sure Tad were the support act? Saw loads of gigs there around that time so might have that mixed up with someone else.

Jeez, makes me feel old! Some great songs on that album but not listened to it in full for years, will stick that on Spotify next week.
