Euro 2020
at 21:50 9 Mar 2020

As things stand there's not a chance this tournament should go ahead, regardless of whether it's multi-country or the traditional sole host nation version.

Hundreds of thousands of people jetting all over Europe to its major cities in a short period? Yeah right, it'd be insane if it went ahead.

Does it really make much difference for a virus such as this which can transmit airborne and not die quickly?

People might not be coughing or sneezing but football crowds tend to be very vocal. Shouting, singing, screaming at the ref emits just as much as a sneeze or cough.

I have to admit I am in a more vulnerable group due to age, you young 20s and 30s bucks might not have as much to worry about. Personally, i'm taking as many precautions as I can.

IPTV. Every game home and away live as it happens. Although for the home games you have to endure BBC RS commentary.

I'm just going on what the pharma companies and experts say. First they need to find an effective vaccine, then it needs extensive testing first on animals and then on humans. They might be able to find a vaccine relatively quickly but they're not going to release it until there has been extensive testing, which is the time-consuming part.

Well there is some Chinese data to suggest that you are not just at risk from standing next to someone but at up to 5m away. And it's not just who you sit next to. Thousands go to the bar and for food before the game and at half-time.

The fact people might go to the pub and watch it isn't really a counter to restricting events of tens of thousands.

With a vaccine over a year away the main hope seems to be the virus burning itself out. That's not going to happen while they still allow gatherings of tens of thousands of people in a confined area. A miniscule chance of catching it by walking past someone on the street but standing within a few metres of someone for a while, such as at a sporting event, makes the risk exponentially higher.

Well done them. Why the f*** aren't the UK moving on to the delay phase? It's inevitable I don't see the point in procrastinating. Just do it.

Neither. Which I suppose means I think a tomato is an animal.

Still more convincing than either Johnson or Trump.

Presumably Lamberts contract is full of clauses?

With a contract of such length as much as there will be clauses that 'benefit' the club there will be clauses that benefit Lambert.

Of all the things that have gone on awarding Lambert a five year contract is the most baffling.

Quite frankly, we need to go up this season.

Why has Evans made himself a target?

Five years. Who the heck made that decision?

Throw us in the river and add some weights to make the struggle even harder.

Sunderland in League One it is then (n/t)

Play-offs remain, and should always be, our realistic target for next season.

Personally I dislike, and disregard, all the hubristic Billy Big BoIIocks stuff. We have a good ground, a new destination for many (just as they are for us) and will have decent attendances.

None of which give us any points in the league table.

The financial mess at Aston Villa - likely £100m loss
at 21:05 3 Mar 2019

They were ultra-screwed at the start of the season. I had a wager on them to go down @ 9.0 the day before they were rescued grrr.

But it looks like only enough for a season. Without promotion this season they are looking more and more doomed in the next few years.

No sympathy here. Our best team ever didn't do themselves any favours in 80/81 by beating them in the third round of the FA Cup. We played 66 games that year (Villa three times, winning every one) compared to their 46. Yes, I bear a grudge.

I don't see ST prices dropping much, perhaps 10%. The club should keep offers for STs open as long as possible and hope for a good start to the season. It all depends on the first few games.

I can't see us getting better than 15k average at best unless we have a barnstorming start. Bigger clubs than us with better squads have struggled to get back out of L1.

Heading for Division One and
at 22:14 2 Mar 2019

It's a siege mentality that has now been lost.

There are restrictions on the number of cheap ticket offers clubs can use over a season. We will still get good crowds (for L1) next season but unless base ticket prices drop the norm will be about 12k.

I agree, I only singled out the far-right in the context of the thread.

Social media influence is something that has gone way beyond legislators everywhere in recent years.

And yes, there does need to be legislation. That's not Orwellian before anyone starts.

The far right have a very sophisticated and effective social media presence. A perfect platform for them. It's easy to dismiss them as hi-viz wearing loudmouths but it goes a lot deeper than that.
