When we signed him, Southampton were also trying to sign him. The release clause is probably what got the deal over the line for us.
£12m profit in a season on a player who we managed to land in front of a competitor isn't a bad deal.
He may be worth far more in a few years, but if we hadn't have put in the clause, we would be 12 million worse off then we are now. |

Maybe Keane is just pre-empting the comments from fans saying that he should have played them both today so they could say farewell to the fans. Rather than face a barrage of abuse for not playing them, he has given the reason why they were not in the squad.
I'm neither a Keane supporter or hater, but the poor fella seems to be in a no win situation over the pair's release. |
