Misheard lines from songs - we need a light diversion
at 18:28 4 Feb 2025

One more I almost forgot. One song, I mean a classic pop song, but one I’ve always had difficulty working out the lyrics for, Blondie- heart of glass. Even though I know the line is ‘riding high on love’s true bluish light’ it still sounds to me like ‘riding high, although I’m still a Jewish lie’. It was years before I found out what it was, before which I’d assumed Debby Harry was some sort of mad conspiracy theorist

Misheard lines from songs - we need a light diversion
at 15:41 4 Feb 2025

My brother’s partner apparently thought thin lizzy’s ‘the boys are back in town’ was called ‘the bus from Pakistan’

I misheard a line from manics song ‘you stole the sun from my heart’ too, the line is ‘drinking water to stay thin’ and I thought it was ‘drinking, what a Tuesday thing’
And on that note, I’m off for a pint 🍺

The Utd 9-0 match...
at 21:02 20 Sep 2024

And according to Warky plenty of players were carrying knocks that day and there was a 'flu bug ripping through the Town squad, which he reckons had it been affecting Utd instead, Fergie would have got the game postponed

Oh my god. How awful. My best mate was diagnosed with osteosarcoma on his 21st birthday (unusually late in life as it’s mainly a childhood cancer). He went through hell, but was fortunate enough to have a decent enough quality of life that he could get married and have two children, before it got him and he died at the age of 36 in 2010. Far too young, I still think about him every day.

I’m out of the country at the moment but will donate to this when I’m back home

Fulham Fans in the Dove
at 11:52 2 Sep 2024

I go in the dove after most games and there are often a few away fans in there. Last couple of years in particular about 10 or so Plymouth fans have made their way there after the game, always seemed a good bunch. Not the type of pub to attract any sort of trouble making though, given it’s about a mile from the ground, and is a destination pub for ale drinkers rather than a sky sports pub selling pints of carlsberg and bottles of bud (other lagers are available)

Pink third shirt on a fifty-year old bloke
at 17:24 30 Aug 2024

I quite like the shirt so I contemplated the idea. I'm 50 and built for comfort rather than style (2XL). I figured as soon as someone shouted 'Blobby, blobby, blobby!' at me when wearing it, I'd never wear it again. So I didn't bother

Sunderland fans reaction to Jack Clarke signing for Towen..
at 11:01 23 Aug 2024

£15m is an absolute steal, according to them. But even if he joins us we have no chance of staying up, as he won’t get a touch, apparently. Personally I’d like to think such a player who we’ve ‘stolen’ from them might well be able to fashion himself a few chances here and there and who knows, play his part in keeping us up? Not that much of a steal otherwise, I’d have thought

34th Ipswich Beer and Cider Festival
at 20:27 23 Jul 2024

Hello all,

This year I’m involved with the setting up and running of the 34th Ipswich Beer and Cider festival, a collaberative festival between Briarbank Brewery and Ipswich and East Suffolk Camra. Once again it is being held at St Clement’s Church (behind Fore Street Pool). It runs from this Thursday 25th to Sunday 28th July. We’d love to see some of you there, especially before and after the Düsseldorf friendly on Saturday, I believe a few Fortuna supporters are going to come, so it should hopefully help make for a good atmosphere. Tickets and beer tokens are available at https://www.ipswichbeerandciderfestival.co.uk/ but walk-ups will be available on the day also, capacity permitting

Cheers

G

P.s. Phil, any chance of making this a sticky from now until Sunday please?

Yes that was directly opposite us. Looked around the other tiled roofs and it looks like it’s not the first time that’s happened at Trent Bridge. H&S will be onto them, no doubt 😁

As far as I remember it didn’t seem any busier around the main stage when the levellers were on in 94 than it did for any other big name headline act around the same period. Radiohead in the 97 mud felt just as busy, certainly. There were always loads of people at the main stage when the headliners were on, and that does include the levellers in 94, but I just don’t get where this story cropped up from, that there were 300,000 watching them. No way is it true. I never remember it being mentioned at the time, nor was it spoken about at the festivals in 95 and 97, it just seems like a Chinese whisper that’s developed over recent years

That levellers story from 94 is a total urban myth. I was there in 94. Yes, the fence got broken down and a few people got in, but nowhere near the numbers claimed. As for the reported 300,000 odd watching the levellers, don’t make me laugh, I doubt there were even half that many people on site in total, let alone watching them.
