Smith Confirmed as All Whites Skipper
at 22:41:44

Looks like the risk by Mexico worked. 5-1 to El Tri... and it wasn't really that close. Kiwi goalkeeper had several incredible saves in the first half. NZ tried to bunker in and it worked for about 35 minutes, but once they conceded it was going to be a long 55 minutes.

Smith Confirmed as All Whites Skipper
at 17:36:41

Reading a little bit more, it appears that a couple of other Non-Club America players will probably feature tonight. Midfielders Carlos Pena and Luis Montes (who play with Rafa Marquez at Leon) look set to play. So it will be 7 Club America players, 3 Leon players and 1 from Santos Laguna (Oribe Peralta).

Smith Confirmed as All Whites Skipper
at 15:07:30

The Mexicans are taking a calculated risk with the players called in. Essentially, the team is Club America of Liga MX plus Oribe Peralta up front and Rafa Marquez (who is way past his best) at the back. The new manager is the manager of Club America and has brought in his players to save the day.

There has been talk of this for a while. One point, which I think has merit, is that Azteca has become much less of a fortress as more Mexican players have headed to Europe. This is because the pollution and altitude have always provided a massive home advantage for the Mexicans, but as their players have gone to Europe, they come back and don't adjust to those conditions, just like the away teams, so the advantage is gone. Club America plays its home games at Azteca, so presumably they are trying to regain this home advantage.

Finally, there is a huge backlash in Mexico against the European based players. Essentially the attitude is that they are the reason Mexico is in this mess to begin with. I don't know how many followed it because it would have been in the middle of the night, but with 5 minutes left in CONCACAF qualifying Mexico were out of the World Cup. They trailed Costa Rica 2-1 and Panama led USA 2-1. If Panama won and Mexico lost, Mexico finished 5th (out of even the playoff places). USA scored 2 injury time goals to save Mexico (and as an American, I am still torn on whether I am happy about this). So, the view is that the European players failed, but were saved by the one team the Mexican support NEVER want to be saved by.

Smith Set to Make New Zealand Bow
at 16:44:12

I am sure you will be able to find streams of New Zealand v. Mexico online. In the US it is on Telemundo with Spanish commentary and mun2 with English commentary. In New Zealand it is on Sky Sports 1. Although, the game kicks of at 8PM California time, so that will be 4AM GMT (I think... I am off by an hour here and there).

Edwards Called Up
at 21:47:51

Bobby Zamora? I had no idea he was eligible for T&T. I know they changed the rules recently in terms of changing national teams, but I didn't even know he was eligible. I know that he played a few matches for England at U-21 level.

Edwards Wins 76th Cap

I agree with Norse, he is an exciting player. He and Kenwyne Jones were by far the best players on the pitch for T&T. Edwards was creating a lot of trouble for Jonathan Spector all night.

I see Edwards a lot in CONCACAF for T&T against the USA... I like him, he would be a good acquisition.

Town Game Live Abroad

I use iraqgoals as well... always pretty reliable. The only time I had trouble with the feed was QPR last year.

As for the Championship in Canada. I think it is generally covered on Setanta Canada. I know that they showed the match last week. You also get Fox Sports World Canada which shows a lot of footy... it may not be Ipswich, but you should be able to get your footy fix!
