KMc quotes vs Norwich
at 13:34 7 Apr 2024

Disclaimer: obviously KMc is awesome. Winning mentality instilled deep within. Astute tactical changes to change things, create goals, win games. The man is a genius, that’s not up for debate.

However… I am a bit perplexed by his interviews post Norwich specifically. They did a tactical number on us both games. Could have won the first. Definitely won the second on merit.

After PR game, Keiran says we would have won the game 9 times out of 10, which I did not really agree with and seemed a bit sour.

Then yesterday he says neither team played at a high level and there was nothing in the game. That is definitely salty. It is true for us, as we were below our best. Unfortunately, Norwich played well. They scored when well on top, defended comfortably and had several opportunities to push for a second. One of those we were lucky not to get a red.

McKenna never acknowledged that norwich did stuff we needed to respond to. More importantly he did not respond effectively in the match. Yes, teams have beaten us before this season but rarely have a team so far short of us been so comfortable against us. He really did nothing to address that then said it was Ipswich who were comfortable. I don’t buy it. It’s like he has a mental block against them.

I wonder whether the pressure to please the fans changes his approach or clouds his judgement specifically against them. Two rare off days for him, matched by really odd accounts of the game. If you’re going to criticise the opposition, better to do it after you’ve beaten them, not vice versa, or it looks like sour grapes and probably is.

Maybe sour grapes from me. Still beyond gutted.

Play-off injustice
at 15:57 9 Mar 2024

20 more points than the scum and we’re going to end up playing them over two legs.

I just feel like we never get the rub in the championship promotion races. And now it seems our historic club and this incredible team has the odds stacked against it more and more. Leeds and leicester paying EPL wages for EPL squads and are going to breach FFP and even with the parachute bribe which tries to keep the EPL a closed shop. Even if held to account later, it won’t help us.

Other clubs seems to make a habit of riding waves of good fortune into the prem and I jut feel like the dye is cast against us. Our team has been heroic but I am fed up with the weighted dice at the top of the Championship.

If we do end up in the playoffs
at 17:08 3 Feb 2024

We’ll win it at Wembley which will be glorious.

There are four great teams in the division all averaging two points a game, which is championship form in many a season.

Positions 3 and 4 (which may include us) will destroy positions 5 and 6 over two legs.

Then it looks like maybe us vs Leeds in the final.

We will win at Wembley and it will be magnificent.

McKenna misinformed about abandonment?
at 11:55 22 Jan 2023

McKenna says that the referee told him that, with an abandonment at 75min, the score of 1-1 at that stage would stand as a result. He then says the company secretary told him ‘it’s not in the rule book.’

So I’ve looked into that. The EFL rules say it’s the sole discretion of the EFL Board, considering IFAB and FA rules. The IFAB say that results can be valid after 60mins of play. So the EFL Board could determine the result as valid but their rules don’t cover it explicitly… but that is not the end of it.

If you look back at precedent, for all EFL games abandoned after 75 mins (for reasons from weather to ‘The Battle of Brammall Lane’) the score at that point has become the result. The only exceptions are where one team’s misconduct causes the abandonment and then the EFL generally punish that team with a 3-0 loss.

Precedent, like case law, should be considered part of the rules. Once established, precedents are applied consistently in the same circumstances, for fairness.

The story where he says ‘it’s not in the rulebook’ misstated the facts, or at least did not state the complete facts and is misleading. It’s not a criticism of McKenna - it’s not his job to know obscure competition rules. But he has been misinformed (or incompletely informed) by our CoSec. Ultimately, the referee appears correct.

I’m pleased we went for the win. It’s the right mentality. We were unlucky but we have to live with the consequences of our choices and not imply the ref lied to us when he didn’t.

Understand people are down but negativity not warranted
at 10:06 15 Jan 2023

Was at the game yesterday and have watched the extended highlights a few times and we were just a freak goal away from a deserved win after a brilliantly managed performance against a main promotion rival. They were lively but we controlled the game, took the lead while on top and were doing a decent job of managing it out. By rights, we would now be tucked in behind them in the table, in striking distance with a game in hand.

Their goal was classic kitchen sink football with their budgie fullback trying anything in desperation. Obviously as budgies always have luck against us over the last decade, it takes a deflection and flies past our keeper. Lucky. Very lucky. Should not massively change how we feel about the game.

I get the natural reaction is to vent, and that’s what this forum seems mainly for, but I’d prefer we stayed rational about it and stayed lockstep behind the team.

We’re still favourite with bookies to finish above Plymouth and for good reason. We will finish above them. Keep the faith.

Showing League One more mercy than advertised…
at 01:14 19 Aug 2021

It was an embarrassing thing for our yankie newbies to say at the time, which was crass and lacking in understanding. No-one gives you promotion for turning up in the directors’ box with cash. I am really worried that these chancers don’t know what they’ve bought into.

Anyone concerned that they get buyer’s regret when they realise it will take longer to turn us around?

Does that fit with their required rate of return or divestment period?

Really poor, but not PC’s fault
at 21:52 16 Mar 2021

We were terrible tonight, totally deserved to lose. BUT it’s not PC’s fault and some of us are starting to go for him. Appreciate it’s painful having to watch that... BUT the squad is bloated and over-full of under-committed, poor players. There’s nothing he can do about it until the summer. Let’s not do for him, before he’s had a chance

Would you take an all-or-nothing derby?
at 10:59 10 Mar 2021

Completely hypothetical but...

If we give PC a few games to implement his ideas, would you take a game at the end of the season at Portman Road vs Norwich, winner takes all.

By that, I mean that if we win, both clubs start next season in the Championship. If they win, they go up, we stay in l1. If it is a draw it is the status quo which is probably them going up and us staying put.

I appreciate it’s a bit of nonsense but the press seem to be noshing them off and I think with a few fans back in the ground we could *could* beat them. They’re not that great, as last year proved.
